Still only doing one of those truck bed tents by Napier. Regardless of that though, is anyone using those pop-up canopies rather than a slide out awning? When/If I get a RTT tent, I really don't want to mount it high. I want to mount it low so it doesn't stick up much above the cab of the truck so a attached awning wouldn't work to well.

So my thought was to get one of the those pop-up canopies like you see all over kids soccer fields. Granted you have to tie/weight it down somehow. I am only thinking as a back up for when it rains. If it's nice I wouldn't use one anyway and since I tend to be a loner on the trails and not hanging around a camp to much beyond the stay.

Check out the Clam Quick Set shelters. They have the added benefit of screen walls for bug protection, and you can buy solid wall panels as well. They aren't tiny when packed, but they're still smaller/lighter than something like a Quik Shade. The Traveler version is the smallest one, it might fit your needs. I've got a big one, and though it hasn't been field tested, I can confirm that it is very easy to set up.

I don't believe they are waterproof, but you could pretty easily treat them I think.
