Hi all,

My buddy's wedding is now scheduled in the middle of my planned trip down into Mexico. I planned on driving down and up into Yucatan by the time the date rolls around, so here lies my question:

I know I can't drive out of Mexico without taking my car with me because of the temporary import permit (TIP) , but can I fly out just for a few days while the car is in storage? Do I have to fly out of one of those import free zones (ie Quintata Roo, as referenced here)? Can a return ticket to Mexico be enough proof?

Or am I not allowed to fly out at all?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

Thanks again @MCL. Any sources on this? I don't doubt you at all, just covering my butt in case anything happens!

By law if you leave your ride using a FMM it is consider abandon. Why would a tourist leave the their ride if a tourist? I have done it plenty of times. It's the laws but it's mostly OK.
