Leave the coax in place. you can use it when you can your ham ticket.
Yeah. That thought crossed my mind already too.

another benefit is if I move the GMRS to fender it will clear my carport. So I think add a second coax, and mount to fender is where I’m headed.

Sounds like you're on the way to solving your GMRS/CB problem.

One thing I'd like to add is when ever I add a radio to my rig I fuse both the positive AND negative wires to it. It's something I learned from several HAMS and guys that install radio equipment for a living. Since I've done that I've had no power problems.
