Taking the family out for the weekend, on Friday we will stay somewhere by Crown King and we will make it to the Prescott area on Saturday. Does anyone have some nice spots to stay over night near Prescott?

You're looking for primitive camping? At the end of senator hwy (which is the rd in from crown king) there is a bunch of dispersed camping spots. If you go out walker rd. past lynx lake, there is a lot too. The loop rd around Thumb Butts has a bunch of spots. Also, wolf creek rd (also at this end of senator hwy) has a lot of spots.

If none of that makes sense, let me know and I'll get screen shots of maps. I'd join you but I 'll be up at the Expo latter this week and that would be too many nights away.

It's been way to long for me since I have camped in the area. AZ peeps chime in!

Here's what the national forest says:
https://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/prescott/recreation/camping-cabins/?recid=67155&actid=34

You might also get the free MVUM maps which show current legal trails.

This PDF has lots of info:
https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3797787.pdf

Good luck!
That second link is really all you need. I recommend keeping you're eye out at the end of senator and taking the left toward wolf creek campground if nothing looks goopd. The spots begin after the campground and are mostly on the right of memory serves.

If it were me, I'd be pulling off of wolf creek rd on a particular side rd. That goes back up into the hills. Looking at my PNF map, it looks like rd 66. I'll try and give you more info or post a pic of map.

Primitive camping would be fine. If we have some time and we should I’ll drive around the area and pick something that looks good

Friday night we stoped at Dasoto mine just past Cleator. It was significantly difficult to get to and the wind was howling most of the night.
