Looking at getting either a K&N CAI or a snorkel to help my rig breathe a little better and possibly boost the MPG's slightly. I'm running a 4.7 V8 in my WJ with a free'er flowing exhaust. I've tuned the ECU to get the best MPG's possible with that setup. Just wondering who has experience with either on their rig, the pros/cons, and what you would suggest. I'm leaning towards a snorkel but my mind is stuck on the street cars I used to build and how a CAI helped them a bit. Thanks!!

If you're planning on spending money on a K&N air intake kit in the hopes of more power and/or better MPGs you're going to be disappointed. The difference is marginal and will never pay back the investment cost. I'm speaking from experience - I have a K&N air intake system on my TJ. You're better off using the $ you would spend on the K&N kit on a few tanks of gas for a long trip.

If you're going to spend the money, go for the snorkel instead and then post pics of the process and how it turns out! I'm sure others on the forum are interested in the process/results. Let us know what you decide!

Unless you are increasing horsepower and torque from other modifications including a tuner a CAI will give you nothing but louder intake and less money in your pocket. Modern vehicles adjust the air/fuel ratio automatically. Even in the old days CAIs by themselves only added 1-5hp on the dyno. In some cases they will decrease power and mpg.

I've got a tuner, however my interest is purely to gain better fuel economy with maybe a bit of power increase as well.

As others have stated, you’re not going to get there with CAI even with a tuner. In theory, a snorkel is more of a CAI than most CAIs but I still don’t think you are going to see any performance improvement.
