Am looking at a 2010 Toyota FJ with 135k miles. What can negotiate on the price.

The salesman told me I can remove the alarm, theft protection and tint BS that's on there.

My trade is a 2005 Chevy Colorado 4 door with 225k miles on it. I dent expect to get much for it.

The break down is on the picture.

Just a little background. I bought my FJ back in November of 2006 (the year they hit the market- it was a 2007 model). I had a great time with it on the trails. We explored a bunch of the west in the FJ and we loved it. Last year, we decided to upgrade for a bit more room/comfort and went with the T4R. The dealer is actually a pretty good friend and he gave me some advice - sell it myself. He was only able to offer about $12-14K for a trade. I put it for sale on Craigslist, starting prive at $19.5K. I was hoping for $18K. It was pretty built (lift, roofrack, Icon suspension, rock rails, steel bumpers, skid plates, etc.), I ended up selling it locally for $17.5K. It had 97,000 miles on it. So, the price you are being offered is not terrible, but not exceptional. I'd see if you can knock a bit more off the price. Although FJs are an extinct breed, 135K miles is not exactly "new." just my $0.02. Good luck on the purchase and look forward to great adventures in the FJC. Here's a pic of my ex-rig (I do miss it - so does my pup - see her in the driver's seat).IMG_5014.JPG

I never liked buying from a dealer. I might keep on looking and try to buy from a private seller. The couple thousand difference can be used to buy something newer or something with the mods I want.

Sell your old car yourself. You’ll make way more money. Then negotiate the price down on the FJ.

They are tricking you with the trade in price, they’ll just send your old car to auction. Really what they are doing is just discounting the FJ a bit, and telling you a higher trade in value...

Sell your old car for more than they are offering you, then negotiate the price of the FJ down more. You’ll win twice this way...
