The last time I posted I was driving a PT Cruiser but wanted to join the organization. Since then I lost my wife of 54 years to cancer. I traded in the PT and bought a 2016
Silverado 4x4. I live in Arlington Wa. and my son lives in L.A. so I will probably hook up with him, he has my last 2011 Silverado two wheel drive. We have both turned the back seat into a sleeper so we can meet up and do some bonding. I don't know how many members are near me. So I'm still getting my feet wet. I just read over this thread and I don't want to add the death of my sweetheart in getting rid of a car I didn't like and buy my 16 Chevy. She was my best friend. Talk later. Bruce

Thank you, things are setting into a routine. That's my biggest fear is I take my shiny newer pickup out on a trail and damage it then have to spend a bunch of money to repair it. I was going to buy a Tacoma but the small voice said otherwise. I'm very happy with my second Silverado even though it's not the best rig for overlanding. I notice you're from BC, I was raised on Nootka Island and then went to high school in Courtenay on the east side of VI. Learned to fly out of the Comox airbase. We're just 8 hrs away from one another.

You can have a lot of fun out in nature without breaking anything, yeah you will likely get some new pin striping from branches but nothing major. Personally I don't mind stuff like that so long as it runs and functions.

Sounds like fun. I went to school in Texas, and have a daughter in Houston. They seem to like it .They spent the last week in South Pedro Island. (Spelling) they want me to move down there but I’m pretty comfortable here. Well, its bed time, thanks for getting back

Not exactly the dry side but some stuff in the middle would be Red Top and Little Naches areas. The areas north of Cle Elum can be good or if you take 97 north of the town of liberty there's countless dirty roads to explore.

personally I like to go out with a goal in mind like find cool rocks, getting to a fire lookout or dipping the sluice in the water for some gold but its also fun to just drive the logging road or get to a little lake you saw on google.

Welcome Bruce. I am sorry for your loss. I hope you find solace in the solitude that Overlanding can provide, and by the sounds of it you’ve got some opportunities to bond with your son and create some new family memories as well as revisit old cherished ones.

You have a great rig for overlanding in North America. A Silverado really is a solid choice — comfy, lots of room and capacity, and unless you are doing technical trails, it’s more than capable for most unimproved roads and off-road tracks without needing to spend a ton of money on modifications. Plus, parts are ubiquitous as is aftermarket support.

Your truck is perfect for overlanding, best off is your do not need to put a ton of money into it to keep running unless you drive like a mad man and just slam into things, that aside, I think you can do great in a full size rig, the key is to get out there! Moving to L.A. or just going to visit? either way, sounds like adventure awaits and that will be great, there are tons of places to see and camp between the 2 places and if moving to Cali, tons all around there, mountains, coast, deserts, got it all.

Be safe, be smart, take your time before spending a ton of cash, but most of all, just go!
