While removing a trailer hitch from my 05 Jeep LJ a few years ago, a bolt broke in the frame. I need to install the rear factory recovery loop/hook but that broken bolt needs to come out. Any thoughts on the process..?

Find a nut where the inner diameter is about the same size as the remaining bolt.

Weld nut to bolt by filling the nut with weld.

After it all cools off try to remove it with a wrench.

The heat of the weld should loosen any corrosion when it cools.

If you can spray some penetrating fluid on the bolt that may help a little.

I knew about the penetrating oil, but that idea of welding a nut to the broken end sounds like it might work. A bit scary near the gas tank. Thanks.

Not too bad. Several inches of space between explosive gasses and red hot metal add to the excitement.

One could use a fire blanket placed against the tank if you can wedge it in and not touch the bolt.
