Elevation change is from 800 – 1890 metres. Some of the trail can be narrow, poor passing between oncoming vehicles and pinstripes to your vehicle will be inevitable. The trail goes from wide open road through densely wooded areas to high alpine tree line....10 to 12 hours to complete the trail pending on how hard you you drive. It is a must for the keen overland!

I think we did it backwards... we started from the opposite end from the camp ground.

Whipsaw Trail Details

The Whipsaw Trail in southern BC, is an excellent multi-terrain Jeep route with a great deal of history. Chosen as one of BF Goodrich's Outstanding Trails in 2007, this trail offers challenges for all levels of offroad drivers.

Summary: Most of the trail is close to tree line but in several places it goes into alpine meadows where views from the top are breathtaking on a clear day. There are some rough spots after 24 KM of forestry road with some rock shelves/ledges. The trail can be done in one day depending weather & trail conditions and experience.

I would suggest 2 days is best for this trip as there are many things to stop and see...ponds, cabins, mine sites, side trails to explore at a relatively leisure pace.

Best time of year is July-August (driest and least amount of snow at higher altitudes) or early September before the rains begin....I have done this trail twice, both times in late Aug.
