Anyone have recommendations for moderate trails (day trips) in the Big Bear Lk. Area?
Going the week after 4 July, meeting with Grandkids to “drive on Rocks”. Nothing hardcore, but I don’t want to fall asleep either. ‘97 LX Locked & lifted.

After leaving Joshua Tree, I visited Pioneertown and from there I took Burns Canyon Trail to 2NO2 which takes you into Big Bear. The drive has amazing scenery as you go from desert to mountains and Joshua trees to pine trees. Trail is easy with some moderate portions, probably because washed out. But there were several off shoot trails, like tip top mountains trail and others that are more challenging. We also found a mine...lot of gold prospectors out there.

The ranger station on the north side of the lake has awesome paper maps that can’t be beat. They are put together by Yamaha and the USFS to keep the trails open. The ratings on the trails are for the most part to the T accurate as far as difficulty.
