My wife and I have used every form of camp bedding imaginable, starting with cheap foam pads and army surplus bags, ( we were young and didn’t care) an air mattress and army surplus bags, (still young and not caring) cots with thermarest pads and comfortable sleeping bags- ( in our late 50s and finding comfort beginning to be a priority) then an RTT with Big Agnes bags atop a thermarest pad on top of a hard as rock cheap foam mattress, that lasted all of three years. ( sort of comfortable but in all honesty? Not really) Now? It’s unbelievable that such a company as Fourwheelcamper rewards the lowest bidder to supply their hard as rock foam mattresses in their high end units. Three nights of torture for us side sleepers was enough. We installed the Froli spring system, the Traveler model as the height is 1-3/8”. Three more nights of torture, that foam pad was sprung a bit, but still hard as a rock. So, after much research and discussion, ordered a Hest queen size mattress. We are currently holed up in a Tru by Hilton hotel waiting on warranty repairs and installs on the 4WC. The Hest mattress stop the Froli spring system is more comfortable than the bed I am sitting up on now.
If you are a side sleeper, and am looking for the most comfortable sleep system available for your RTT, your Teardrop, or your Expo rig , spend the thousand dollars on these two items, you will not regret it. ( currently in Bow NH, doing shakedown before leaving the region. Thinking we should stay close to a Mainline Overland shop until all kinks are worked out with the electrical system)

You lost me on "a few thousand dollars." But I am a cheapo and still young-ish enough to not care!! At 58, I still feel 30!! At least that's what I tell myself. My evolution was all about memory foam that can be rolled up and tucked away. I settled on this and it was perfect!

I should have said only a thousand- the hest was 600 and change- the Froli was 300 and change. Ya, at 60 I still felt like I was in my 40s. Even at 71 and my honey 68 we are still able to go for a nice long walk in the woods. Two days ago it was an 8 mile walk in the granite state!
