This weekend I am heading out from NJ to PA and would like to spend Saturday driving thru Bald Eagle State Forest. Need recommendations for fairly mild roads that are Subaru friendly (AT tires, 1.5" lift, skid plates and that's about it). Not looking for any rock crawling or deep water passings. Something with nice views, areas to stop and explore by foot, etc. I do have the Purple Lizard maps. I just need to figure out what's accessible with a AWD vehicle. Some of the videos I saw on YouTube do show some rough roads that I wouldn't feel comfortable going on in my car.

I drive all through Bald Eagle with my cute ute Jeep.

Avoid Henstep, SharpBack, Poe Paddy Dr, Paddy Mountain.

If you see the drivable trail sign...stay away if you like, but you would be fine.

Search my name here, I got lots of info for Bald eagle.

If you are in the book of faces, check out Central PA Overland group.

Since you got the Purple Lizard Map, just follow the dirt roads. Use the key to tell what are 4x4 High Clearance.

You can see my Jeep Cherokee on some of the 4x4 HC trails in my threads here.

Thanks guys for the information. We did go to the BESF and spend Saturday wheeling thru the forest. At first, I started with some gravel roads but having two teenagers in the car, I quickly heard: "We should do the roads they told us to stay away from.". Well, we did. Henstep had a lot of water puddles which were getting muddier and muddier the further we went so at some point we turned back. Then we did the Poe Paddy Drive down from the vistas. This was fairly easy even in the Subaru. Next was the Paddy Mtn Drive (I think I got the name right as I don't have a map in a front of me). This one was a bit challenging. Especially in one place that was washed out and we had to build a ramp from big rocks as the path was dropping over a foot and would most likely crush the front bumper. Overall, we (and the car) survived and had a blast. Will definitely have to come back to explore more.
