Hey everyone. I apologize in advance for the question (Yes I have searched on MULTIPLE forums w/ no answers) but here it is....

I want a roof rack/basket for my '16 4Runner but want to keep the OEM roof rails. If I get OEM Cross Bars, will it be solid enough to house the BajaRack MegaMule or should I invest in aftermarket cross bars?

I know about the BajaRacks which are made for the 4Runners along w/ the Gobi racks etc. but would like to keep the OEM look..

Thanks in advance.

Hey @BaseBklyn. The OEM crossbars for the 4Runner hold around 150lbs, but they flex, which is no bueno in my book.
Thule and Yakima have a rating of 150-165lbs with their base racks and Rhino has a rating of 175lbs.

I have the Rhino Pioneer Platform system on my 2005 4Runner (which would be the same system you would need) and I have been nothing but happy with it. What's more, out of the three brands mentioned here - it's the only brand rated for off-road use.

It's a super clean system and the platform is awesome.
You can actually build the platform up to be a basket as well.
