Backwoods camp oven

A few pics of a backwoods camp oven we got some younger Scouts to build. Shame the weather was so wet, but they learnt a lot.

In the beginning ......

Turf saved to one side...

Mixing the mud to pack round it...

Packing the mud - note the chimney for the fire ......

Packed and fire lit ....

Get some shelter .....

Got the BBQ going too .......

Mini pizzas....

Did some say it got muddy ......

Not a bad spot, shame it rained most of the weekend....

Nothing a good breakfast can't sort out....

The dog never has been any good at fishing ...

I especially liked the photo captioned "got the bbq going too". The upside down rain boots made me do a double-take thinking those kids must have been a bit naughty. LOL!

Really like the idea of that camp oven, very ingenious. Where abouts were you? I’m thinking Wales by the look of the pics and the rain

That's camping right there. No matter what, that's a trip they WILL remember.

They all still talk about it and keep asking to go again.

I’m not far from there.. my brother actually lives in Sutton which is SE Macclesfield, lovely part of the world but didn’t know there was a scout group round there? I’ll have to let him know for his lads

I commend you Sir for your leadership and instructing your Scouts with meaningful skill sets! I was blessed to have been in a high adventure troop when I was in Scouts. I reflect often and with appreciation for the leaders like yourself that I had that helped me attain the rank of Eagle Scout in 1974. Great job!!
