I would really like to visit AZ and UT in the Spring. I have three weeks to work with. This will include 3 days each way from Western NY. Dates are somewhat flexible.

Is anyone already planning something like this for 2022? Want some company?
Anyone interested in collaborating on planning a trip like this?

I'm comfortable traveling solo. However, I also wouldn't mind company for some or all of the trip.

On the fence whether to bring the pup or not. I generally do not leave home without her, but she does limit access to some areas, and it is a LONG time in the car for her.

Comfortable with anything from well maintained gravel roads to more technical / difficult trails. I just need to be able to drive the 4rnr home.

No bucket list of trails I need to check off. I'd prefer not to wait in line to travel a trail...

Good Afternoon,

We are not currently planning any trips for out west, but if you find yourself passing through Memphis and need anything, let us know!

I could be interested. I retired this year, bought a 2020 4Runner, and started learning offroading. I have had an absolutely wonderful time exploring California, Oregon, Washington. I did sneak into Arizona and Utah and fell in love with the desert.
Mostly I have been travelling solo - no spouse or pup even. But as such I avoid doing technical trails. I joined OB for exactly this sort of possibility - joining others.

I do tend to be utterly spontaneous. I will tell you what I am doing when I get up and see what the weather is like. I meant to stick to California but the wildfires drove me north.

Eventually I want to get to the East Coast, but probably not 2022. So far I have tentative plans for Colorado in July and heading out to Nebraska from Oakland in September. I am leaving for Baja in a week.

You will be on your own from NY and back.

Hey @TOY4RNR, I’m out in Phoenix area. If you don’t want to wait in line for trails in Sedona check out this in the area - Outlaw OHV, Oak Creek homestead OHV, and Soldiers Pass. Outlaw is a great loop trail that has some ruins and hieroglyphs. Oak creek homestead take you to a gate then a short hike to the creek. Soldiers Pass could be a bucket list trails you could check out. You need a permit for soldiers pass and there’s a limited amount of passes a day.
Up near flagstaff you got cinder ohv that’s pretty cool lava rock trails. Anywhere in Williams or Parker is great to camp.
Eastern side is Rim Road 300, Apache/show low/pine top. Those places are close to each other with amazing dispersed and designated camping.
Heber-overgaard is a nice high desert area too. It’s surrounded by red dirt and pines with plenty of branched trails to explore.

If you stop by Nevada Valley of Fire and Gold Butte National Monument are great trails. Similar to Sedona and Utah, beautiful red rocks and red dirt. Gold Butte has some insane rock formations and great hiking trails.

Hope this helps figuring out a few spots to visit. As you’ll see I kinda stick to the same area in Arizona and have yet to explore southern part. I’ll keep a look out for finalized dates so I can join for a few days, and I hope you bring your dog.

Thank you for the response and info! I will let you know dates. I'd be happy to have someone with local knowledge for part of the trip!

Hi All! This trip is coming up soon!

I will be solo in Utah from May 4th to the 20th. Always interested in meeting new people on the trails. I will post the loose itinerary below. If anyone is interested in joining up for any of the sections, let me know! None of this is written in stone. Just a general plan, that could be completely different once I hit the trail. Also, if you will be in Utah during this time, have your own plan, and would not mind a tag along, let me know. (I have this all in Gaia if anyone wants to see)

(Tue) 3th – SLC Airport to The Wedge
(Wed) 4th – The Wedge thru Buckhorn Draw to Cane Wash to Fix It Pass or Eagle Canyon Trail Head CAMP
(Thu) 5th - Eagle Canyon to Black Dragon Canyon to Hellroaring /Deadman Point CAMP
(Fri) 6th Hellroaring / Deadman Point to Spring Canyon Point and Mineral Point / Mineral Bottom Overlooks CAMP
(Sat) 7th - to Moab via Long Canyon HOTEL
(Sun) 8th – Potash Road / Shafer Trail CAMP near Marlboro Point (Sunset) or back to HOTEL
(Mon) 9th – Hurrah Pass to Chicken Corners CAMP
(Tue) 10th – Anticline Overlook Road Camp (This might switch to Lockhart Basin)
(Wed to Fri) 11th to 13th – Anticline Overlook Road to Elk Ridge via Newspaper Rock and Beef Basin Road to Blanding to Valley of the Gods (via Lower Butler Wash or Comb Wash Road) CAMP
(Sat) 14th – Valley of the Gods (Mexican Hat, Goosenecks, Raplee Ridge) to Muley Point CAMP
(Sun) 15th - Muley Point to Natural Bridges(?) to Woodenshoe Road CAMP to Flint Trail via Hite CAMP
(Mon) 16th - Flint Trail to Lower San Rafael to Moab CAMP
(Tues) 17th – Dome Plateau
(Wed) 18th – Dome Plateau
(Thu) 19th – Top of the World(?) and/or Onion Creek
(Fri to Mon) 20th to 23rd – Moab to Gateway, CO to NY (Maybe via Rimrocker)

(Purposely avoiding National Parks, as I will have the mutt.)
