Arkansas Weekend trip

Hey guys!

So I want to get out and do a solo trip out of state to see some beautiful sights and hit some trails however, Im not well versed on trails out of state. I am relatively new to offroad trails and weekendlanding. I have a lifted Tacoma and have gone offroad camping near me but I want more of a challenge with more views and experiences. I downloaded Gaia and have been getting a few suggestions of trials off Facebook from some local (to me) guys. Does anyone have any cool stopping spots to camp or look out at the wilderness?

Hey Nick.

I’d recommend either the Winona Auto Tour route that runs between Highway 7 & 9 within the Ouachita National Forest or one of the day trips Ozark Overland Adventures recently featured on their YouTube channel that runs through the Ozark National Forest.

Day 1 can be watched here:
You can also find the entire route for each day (including recommended campsites) within the description of each video. Just upload the route(s) into GAIA GPS and you’ll be good to go.

Hope you enjoy yourself in Arkansas. It’s a beautiful state with many hidden gems.

It all depends on what st and where your going states ect. If your we're coming to Wyoming perfect time to . However I would contact the BLM office (not black lives matter lol)for trail maps look for national forest to hit, there are trail book. I have one for Wyoming that I can drive from one side of stat to the other and only cross a highway . Always remember to map out your route s, always let people know where you'll be, and get a gps beacon alerter. Like a spot. And or a sat phone just in case. Be safe man, if you get to Wyo, hit me up.

Ouachita National Forest in Arkansas is convenient for weekend trips from DFW. For a longer weekend (preferably 4 day weekend), check out Lincoln National Forest in New Mexico. I spent Labor Day weekend in Lincoln NF near Cloudcroft, NM and really enjoyed it. If you haven’t already downloaded the iOverlander app, I recommend doing so. The app is free and it’s useful for planning areas to camp, or at least getting an idea of areas that may have suitable areas for camping.

Thank you both of you, Ill keep all this in mind. I am creating my plan as we speak. I definitely want to try and make it to WYO one day, I just need to gain alittle more confidence and experience with overlanding first!

Hi Nick!
i second Patrick’s suggestion. Watch the OOAT series and use the GPX files. Lots of good information, but since you’re traveling solo and just starting out maybe skip the day 4 trails until you have another vehicle with you. Also, Ozark trails can get narrow so be prepared for pinstriping. Rendezvous in the Ozarks is next weekend so if you go then there will be lots of fellow overlanders.

Hey Patrick, looks like an awesome time. Myself and some friends are looking for a trail for the week of Thanksgiving. What time of year are the water crossings lowest? Also, I pull a m416 with uor tent on it. are you able to pull a trailer on this? We did the NMBDR in septtember and had no problems. Thanks for any input. Joel
