JB, checking-in from Cool Springs Station Museum, located between Kingman and Oatman at the base of the Black Mountains, where I live and work as the Caretaker. I've been here for about a year and have only been out on a handful of old mining trails and such...however, as it begins to cool down I plan on becoming more active. In the meantime I am preparing for an extended journey, where I'll be living out of my 2004 Disco II, through the Summer month's while on the Western Slope in CO, near the Silverton area...most of this adventure will be documented and shared via daily vlogging efforts-(which is also a new hobby of mine). If you're interested, you can view one of my practice vlogs at the link below.

Rexx, I have had mine for about 11 yrs. Seems that there is a new interest in Excursions. I have had dealerships try to buy it as wells as parking lot offers almost every week.

The good thing is that they can be pretty cheap. Mine was very beat up. Runs great but really shows years of hard use. I was a search and rescue helo pilot and my truck is really being decked out for SAR work.

The build has been a nightmare from the start. I am in well over $20k at this point. But when you figure that I got it used for $32k and have driven it 290,000 miles it is actually a bargin. If I went to a dealer and tried to buy something similar it would cost me about $80k and I would still have to put $10k into it is specialized gear.
Ron, ya been seeing some good prices on what I'd call fair mileage.I hope to your rig at some point. There was an article donein Recoil Magazine a few months back, guy fully built his survival rig with an excursion, been fully hooked since reading

I have seen a ton on the market right now. There is one 02 in Florida that is show room ready. New 2015 front end and new 2013 interior. 78k on mileage. They are asking $26k! I would call that a good deal.

IMG_0884.jpg Hello Arizona Overlanders. New to overloading but have been working/preparing my 2015 JKU for two years now. Not sure how to enter any pictures here but will figure it out soon. Just ordered a Hiker Trailer Extreme Off-Road 5X9. Ordered a pretty basic and bare trailer and will solar and electrical myself. Planning on a solo trip to Alaska April through June 2018 adding as much overloading as possible through the different states and Canada. Looking forward to learning from the experience of members here.

Sorry I missed this--new member and all. Retired and usually available for last-minute runs. Love to explore the desert so shout-out again.
Hey gunner I'm in fabrication mode, in the process of buying supplies waiting for tire carrier , front & rear bumpers to come by the 1st of August. Winch install getting ready for the trip to the grand canyon & zion national park I have posted in the rally event forum. It's Labor Day weekend I'm going for 5 days spending 4 in zion doing trails. Any questions hit me up . Other than that I'm laying low in the heat .

Came to OB a couple of days ago and was encouraged to come here. So for better or worse here I am. I'm in Yuma normally winters only but got caught here for the summer this year. I have led a couple of trips through the El Camino Del Diablo Rd. so when it starts cooling maybe we could put something together if there's any interest. Check this https://www.desertusa.com/desert-trails/diablo.html

Definitely! I was hoping to run that this fall/winter once things cool down again, I've never done it before.
It's a fun ride, nothing too challenging but still an interesting trip. 120 mi. of dirt, sand and rock. Two overnites if wanted. Requires a permit, free of charge. On one trip Cobra gunships buzzed us , that was serious fun! Not unusual to see smugglers and illegals , border patrol.

Yeah, I definitely plan on overnighting two nights on El Camino. I was also thinking of maybe starting south of Sierra Vista and adding another few days by taking Montezuma Canyon Road > Lochiel Rd > Duquense Rd > Nogales then up to Ruby Rd and then some still-to-be-researched route towards Ajo, then hopping on El Camino from there. That might be too ambitious, but I think it would be a blast, and there's a few places on the way for restocking food/water.

Would you be interested in something like that, as well?

I think time permitting yea. Or could split it up over time. Spring and fall, even some of winter are perfect times for those trails. Opening it up forum wide would most likely generate interest.

Hope you will come out to one of our AZ Overlanders parking lot meetups when you get your trailer. Always great to check out what everyone has. We will do another one in October or so when the temps cool down. What is your expected date for delivery?

Will not receive trailer until January 2018 but will be at the meet up on July 29th. Have other Jeep projects coming along and looking for additional ideas. Looking forward to meeting other like-minded off-road enthusiastic people.

Where do you hold those parking lot meetups?
