Are there any events coming up? I haven't seen anything on the event calendar on the Michigan Overland website.
We were supposed to this weekend but the organizer had something come up. I'd like to try for another weekend coming up end of September, beginning of October.

How much room will you have in the truck? I'm reaching out to family and friends to see what they can gather.
A semi is going down, I didn't ask the size. I'm sure anything and everything is welcome. I'm working on some drop off spots and should have them pinned later today or tomorrow.

n00b here! I live in Hudsonville (I never heard of it either. It's between GR and Holland off 196).

Looking for a rig for "family" use! If you've got something or know someone selling, lemme know...right now I'm exploring all my options as far as exactly what rig to get.

Thanks!

@907 Chief welcome! I don't have anything for sale but my Suburban seems to do the trick with the wife, three kids, and a dog. Although I've yet to have more than two out running trails and camping.

Welcome! Lucky for you the selection of 4 wheel drives is about as good as it gets this time of year. There's a handful of cool old Land Cruisers on craigslist right now if your budget is roomy :tongueclosed:

Mike! What's new? I've been watching your engine rebuild/swap on YouTube.

Hey Nick! I was just diving into the world of motorcycles with a little enduro I picked up & started building before the truck went & blew up on me. Didn't intend for it to become my daily, wicked fun though:
Sertao_650.jpg
But since I scored the diesel I've been "nose to the grindstone" on the project. So focus-mode that I've missed out on some good fall events, but I'm hell bent on getting it 100% by spring. Can't wait to get out on the trails & meet up again!

Nice, it looks like a sweet bike. What brand is it (I know next to nothing about motorcycles)? I've been wanting to do some research on Enduro motorcycles for some article ideas, maybe thisll kick it off.

Ryan nailed it. It's a BMW "Sertao", used to be called Dakar, the little 650 single. It's kinda just a prettied up dirt bike, sounds like one too... THUMP THUMP THUMP

I put this post up over in our Facebook Group and figured I'd share it here as well. I know some folks don't use Facebook.

I’m not sure if anyone cares about this but me but I figured I’d share it anyway. About this time last year was when the website launched and content was published. Ultimately growth for everything was because of you guys that are part of this group, part of the OB forums, follow Michigan Overland on Instagram, Twitter, or wherever else I’ve got it set up. So thank you. You make this a fun project for me to pursue in my spare time.

Last year my primary goal was to get a new logo and some merch type stuff going. Didn’t get it done. Well, this coming year it is going to happen. I’ve been working with a local designer to get something in place and can’t wait to get it attached to the site and whatever else I can.

Attached are a few screen grabs of some of the website stats over the last year. If you see something you have questions on, want to help out on, have ideas for, think are good, think are bad, feel free to let me know. Either leave some comments, shoot me a message, email me, doesn’t matter.

-Stats 1 shows the number of views and visitors from 2016 (left, orange) versus 2017 (right, blue). 6,251 views and 2,093 visitors from all over the world in 2017.

-Stats 2 shows the monthly rundown, with a range of views/visitors between 350-700 per month and 10-30 per day.

-Stats 3 shows where the views/visitors come from all over the world.

-The last photo is a shot of my whiteboard and a little bit of a peak into the madness that is my brain (don’t take the article titles seriously, they’re all in fun and won’t be the final). I usually end up setting high goals for myself for projects and try to meet what I can based on the free time I have and the funding I have available (which are both limited at the moment). Once again, I’ve set the bar probably higher than I should but I’m determined to get it done.

:openmouth: Looks very interesting indeed! Happy to see I'm not the only one who finds it useful to lay out things like what you've done there on the whiteboard. Helps me to get an honest perspective of projects when I write them out vs just a load of scattered ideas rattling around in my mind.

You're wise to have goals aimed towards consistency, seems that's the name of the game with so much content out there to binge on. From what I understand, most the major media site's "algorithms" have in common that they weight heavily on consistency & engagement. Although it sure does look daunting with all the different platforms. I've heard of ways to automate things you post to publish out simultaneously to multiple sites, twitter facebook instagram etc all at once, but not sure how plug 'n play it really is.

Really pushing myself to get out even more next year, definitely plan to meet up & participate more often. I should have a lot more freedom in 2018, & the combination of the new bike + reviving my youtube channel ought to help reduce the excuses to get out into some adventure. So come spring time if I can help out feel free to hit me up.

P.S. "Sharp objects & you."
Hmmm, can't help but think this may be inspired by all the blood lost on that Manistee trip... LOL!

I use that board for everything I plan. If I could get a full wall died one I probably would. I've got notes and lists of things in various notebooks laying around as well. It's a nice way to brain dump at the end of the day or week.

Automation is pretty easy, I used it a bit at the beginning of last year but staying consistent and coming up with ideas was tricky. I fizzled out on making it not sound automated pretty early on.

The social media part is pretty easy, it's the writing, being engaged more, and again being consistent with it that is tricky. I had a writing and publishing calendar laid out last year but rarely followed it because of other things needing my attention. Gonna try it again this year with some differences and see how it works.

Videos were requested the most when I pinged the group on what new content to try out. Trail rides, reviews, etc especially but I'm not well versed in it. I can do it, but I don't want to unless it's good quality stuff. I may rely on others for this, but utilizing YouTube more this year is one of my top goals.

looks like a plan nick. I like the white board idea, seems a little fancier than my write it all on large cardboard squares and nail it to the barn wall.
It's cleaner than pinning stuff to the wall. My wife wouldn't appreciate pieces of paper or cardboard mailed to the walls too much. [emoji1]
