I'm looking for advice from anyone who has camped at Alabama Hills.

I've been planning a trip for this weekend. My original plan was to leave early Friday morning in order to get there by around noon-ish to set up camp. However, my wife and son are now saying they want to go to but they have school/work tomorrow.

This would be my first time there so I'm wondering how crowded it gets on a normal weekend in late May. Would we still be able to find a suitable campsite (for a large tent and one Jeep) if we arrived Saturday morning?

Hopefully someone can help me out as I'm looking to make a decision fairly soon on going solo or waiting for the family.

Pretty sure you will be fine as it doesn't seem to get overly crowded until after the memorial day weekend, and even in that respect it doesnt feel very crowded during the summer, compared to other areas.

Was out there about a month ago. There was more people than there has been in the past but still several sites to camp. Just one caution the rangers are out in force about requiring a campfire permit and citing for parking on vegetation. Just be cautious where you are parking and setting up camp.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up going alone (left early Friday morning). When I arrived there were plenty of spots to choose from. It did start to get a bit more crowded as the day progressed. I only spent one night as it started to rain Friday night and more was apparently on the way. Beautiful place. I will definitely be back with the family in the very near future.
