Cheap tires are something in between. Now first our market might be different, but I just bought a set of kumho at52 for half the price of bfg ko2 and they are, by no means, made cheap. I still consider them cheap.
I run general tire X3 for summer and I'm absolutely happy with them but I won't buy them again because they became hilariously expensive, they will be replaced by Falken or Yokohama, both again not cheap but almost half the price of the X3.

So what cheap means is a question of how you define it.

So a bit of experience with this as I run rental Jeep's etc..

BFG KO2's - Value for money is the key, they last longer than anything else if setup right.
Falken Wildpeak - Cheaper, look great, perform better than the BFG's just to the tread in mud, but not quite the same millage.
MAXXIS - - Cheaper, look ok, perform ok, but have a soft sidewall.
Kumho - One of those underrated brands, but the compound is softer and you don't get half the mileage of the BFG's
