To calgary

I’m looking at planning a route for MAY 20th ish time,
1. the route is mostly not on highways,
2. where possible stop and tent in a 4x4 area for a morning or evening play
3. Need to stop and visit the clown motel as the fiancée is a cult movie buff
4. Stop in Vegas for a night free tickets and shows shower and replenish
5. Head back to Calgary via cresten Bc to follow a different route.

Need advice on looking on the route
1. What are average snow and road access like in April
2. What areas are closed until later in the year
3. What are sights or attractions along this route
4. Is there a better route to take
5. How many km or miles on average per day can you drive on gravel or b class roads ( I’m thinking of 8/10hrs driving @ 650km 400miles) with stops
6. What are the general conditions in these areas in April

Anyone wishing to join up please contact me to help plan

Current tips

Locations to visit along route
@Mojavewanderer
1. Death Valley April shouldn’t be too hot. (Added)
2. In Tonopah, the mining park, and Central Nevada Museum are worth a visit as well.

Places to camp (long/lat)

Death Valley is not exactly between Las Vegas and Tonopah, but is close enough that you should see it while you are in the area. It is definitely worth visiting, and in April shouldn’t be too hot. In Tonopah, the mining park, and the Central Nevada Museum are worth a visit as well. I’ve stayed at the Clown Motel on 2 separate trips, and it is my go to place to stay in Tonopah.

That is a hell of a long first day... I’m an Ironman when it comes to driving but 21 hours is enough to waste all but the very select few. Hopefully you have 3-4 people you can share driving duties with! Similar to a trip I had planned for last year, but we didn’t make it. Check out Titus Canyon, it’s a one way canyon run from Beatty, NV into Death Valley. Comes out north of Furnace Creek.

There are two of us, and we will need to stop every 4 hrs to refuel. However the other half and I drove for 28 hrs to get from Calgary to Ontario.
This is why we have one day planned as rest on the Friday.
I will add Titus canyon.

You have two rest days after your 20 hour Iron butt marathon. Why not break the drive into 2 days or 3 days and camp as you go? Get up each morning, fix some jet boil coffee and go again. Much more relaxing. Enjoy your trip! Travel Safe!
