See you guys don’t understand If I do it I am cutting a hole in the roof and doing a sportsmobile or westfalia type of rooftop tent

That is a horse of another color.
Not that it can't be done. I saw somewhere where someone did that to a tin-top Samurai and another with a square body Suburban. But it is a substantial project and there are lots of potential failure modes if not done right. Unless you are well equipped with shop space, time and money I would be cautious about tearing into a task of that size.
