Hi all,
Jon here sending a note from central PA. My rig is 2019 Ram 1500 Bighorn. I bought the truck to enter the world of overlanding, and I've started with local state forests. I've been to Tuscarora a few times. I've messaged with DevilDodge, a nice guy from I don't know where, and I guess my brief interaction with a person of his stature speaks to the quality of members here. I'm just getting into this world of overlanding, so you know where I am now. Please feel free to send me tips and advices for overlanding near Central PA (preferably northwest of Harrisburg, PA).
Fall is here. Wish everyone safe and pleasant outlanding.

In Harrisburg, and also just getting started. Have gleaned a lot from @DevilDodge too, good connection! We'll be taking our Trooper out for the first time in a couple weeks to Roth Rock. If you don't have Purple Lizard maps, that would be first on my list of resources to pick up for planning purposes. Their website has a wealth of information too.

I'm also planning to do a section of the Trans-NJ Trail this fall - only a couple hours away and pretty easily doable over a weekend.

I am from Central PA too. Near Altoona.

Right in between Moshannon and Rothrock SF.

Welcome to the group.

As you already know, I love to talk about Public Land and forests in PA.

Welcome Jon! South central PA myself. You've got it right, the members and information here are outstanding. DevilDodge and others have been a wealth of open information for my learning of this area and much more. Have fun!

Thanks guys. One quick question: what are your choices of tent/shelter? I've been using 2 person tent for the last 5 years, and it's close to the end of service life. Rooftop tents look good, but I wouldn't casually jump to it considering the price range. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

That's like asking what's the best drink, to many options and opinions.
RTTs are popular, but a big investment. You need to know your own camp/travel style before jumping into an investment like that.
They are neither good nor bad, just a tool that works for some, not all.
Gazelle tents are also popular, same thing, know your needs and style.
I like sleeping inside my vehicle, but again, that works for me, not everyone.
The cheapest option is a good quality ground tent. Decide from there if you need something more, or less(hammock, bivy, etc)

HAHA I figured so. In fact, I slept a few times inside my car, and it wasn't bad at all. But I'm not sure if it would work in the dead of winter.
