So some of you who followed our 8 month trip last year would know we took our Land Rover Defender 90 and Trailer 23k miles through 28 countries and 3 continents, starting in Cyprus to Turkey (Asia) then to mainland Europe’s most northerly point in the Arctic Circle of Norway and Nordkapp back down through Europe to Morocco (Africa) and then to the UK and Aberdeen in Scotland.

This year we are heading from Aberdeen via the Caspian Sea to the Stans and Pamir Highway following the Silk Road route to Mongolia for Nadaam Festival and into China.

After that we hope to do Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and into Singapore.

For this years trip we wanted to lighten our load, speed up set up and take down and not take the trailer. This means we need to carry everything in our Defender 90 which being the shorter wheelbase has some challenges. It also meant replacing our great Hannibal fold out RTT with a gas strut assisted hard shell RTT.

So here are a couple of photos of some of the upgrades we have had completed. Comprising fitting out the rear, installing an ebersparcher diesel heater, external storage boxes and 240w solar system.

Being a Defender 90 space has been at a premium and this has focused our planning to capitalize the available space. The fact we have sill mounted water tank (50l) tank and aux fuel (40l) tank coupled with the side lockers we think we have achieved most of our requirements and expectations.

We have a few options with this set up.

1/. Standard day to day.
2/. Stealth camping if we don’t want to use the roof top tent.
3/. Inclement weather set up where we still sleep in the tent but stay inside the Landy with the diesel heater and a table between the two front seats to watch movies etc.

We are now in progress personalising it even more to our preferences and requirements.
As always we can be followed on our website, our FB page and Instagram where we try to offer honest reports on our successes and failures along the way hopefully meaning anyone following us does not make the same mistakes.
We encourage questions and feedback so please do t hesitate if you have a question or an observation as your observation may also help us to avoid mistakes too.
