LOL!
I also have to make up my ind, should I save up and buy a 4x4 in 2017 or should I save up and visit the US?
I can only afford to do one of those things.
Buy a 4x4! We will still be here in the future, I hope. If I were to buy a Jeep, it would be a Cherokee like this. IMG_1201.JPG

Joey,

Try to find a real stock one. Then you know that there is less chance that it has been used for extreme off roading.
AND, you can start from scratch with your own ideas and favourables.
Which means, it will be your Rig and you dont have to compromise with what someone else did put on.

That's my plan @Robert OB 33/48, if I go for a Jeep, it will be a XJ or a WJ as I don't need a rockcrawler.

If I can find a clean one that's not rusted I think I will leave it stock for a while, I'm used to driving lowered cars.

Wonderful,

And a good set of tyres makes already a hugh difference.
But, just ask here, as sometimes just thinking before you start, makes it a little bit cheaper in the end. But just a little, hehe.

No hobby will ever be cheap
I also need another daily driver/partshauler once I begin fixing my convertible.

Yeah, so if comfort is a high value, the Defender is not for you. However, it is far more affordable than a G-wagen, unless you're looking at an older G-wagen. Still, there's nothing like a Defender.

You have access to a much larger pool of Defenders than those of us across the pond. Over here, we have to rely on Defenders over 25 years old unless you have deep pockets for the few NAS trucks, which are limited to '94,'95 & '97 for '90s and '93 for 110s. From where I sit, I'd say get the newest Defender you can, but the danger is once you've had one, you'll most likely catch the fever.

In all seriousness, get out and explore. You can visit the US and still buy an older 4x4. And if you buy a LR, they've been making mechanics of owners since 1948...
