G'day
So just over 12 months ago I started prototype one of my light weight sleeping/storage system for my Gen4 (2022) Suzuki Jimny.
Now why not a drawer system? Too heavy!
Why not just run with the plywood base instead of a light weight thin wall steel box tubing?
The steel tubing design is lighter! Yes that’s true it’s going to save about one kilogram.
Also more use of the limited space.

Cool. I'm curious about the metal construction. I see that you have perfect equipment, even a welding worktable. That's great.
Yes, I’m unable to work because of a severe traumatic brain injury (from an accident in late 2017)
So being an ex motorcycle engineer/mechanic I have set myself up with TIG welding machine and table.
In the future I plan to start making a few Dog Gates and Men’s Shelves (when my Brain Injury allows) and sell the Sunday market once a month.
Plus looking to start doing Welding Artwork

This is an outstanding project! As you can see by my avatar, although I now drive a V8 dodge Dakota, I have a soft spot for tiny off roaders.

I am extremely jelly as we can't buy these sweet little 4x4's in NA :( I love everything about this build, especially the fold down rear table and the window guards with sliding windows behind. I would recommend bug screens for those if they don't already have them. Outstanding work so far, and I'm definitely intrigued to see where you go with it.

Your doggo is gorgeous, btw :)

Hi, thanks for your kind words.
I’m planning to have magnetic insect guards to stick on the outside when parked up on the front and back windows .
I totally agree that my young zippy is very cute looking, but unfortunately he knows it.
As a 10 month old is still playing up .
I’m just looking forward to the day we can work together better.
I’m also glad to live in the worlds best country where we are safe from dangerous animals and crazy people.
Being able to buy any one of the world’s two best four wheel drives (Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series and Suzuki Jimny) is the icing on the cake.
More to come in the coming weeks

Progress update:

Busy few days (with a number of naps to rest up my brain)
So the hay basic basic frame structure is complete.
(Have to add mounting taps etc)
Fit into my Jimny, a perfect fit.
Fit my hinged top (half of bed base) and open up the top to allow the storage of soft bags.
Run into one problem due to having fitted the sliding windows since I last test fitted.
The floor of my Jimny and the top are going to be painted with Ute tray liner tough paint.

July Update on project ultra micro overlander

My Ultra Micro Overland project is at long long last taking shape.
This is my first test off my storage/sleeping system.
The front section that covers the front passenger seat is very easily removed in under 40 seconds.
The rear opening lid is to access soft bag storage.
This design is lightweight, make maximum use of the limited space, and comfortable for a good nights sleep for myself and my dog Zippy.

More to come

Loving what you are doing with this little vehicle. Thinking about trying to make a platform for my FJ Cruiser to help with storage. We travel with 2 Mini Aussies Nd really don’t want to travel with a trailer.

One hundred thumbs up. That gear attic is freaking awesome. Genius work here.
