2012 Audi Q7 Tdi Eurowise build

This is where I'm at on my 2012 Audi 3.0 Diesel.

3"lift with a 1" subframe drop. New BBS wheels, and 33's. (275/70-18)

winchmount front bumper with a bullbar going in as well.

Wilco Offroad swingout rear tirecarrier for the spare.

Probably be building a DIY, 8020 rack, as well.

Rear lift and subframe drop complete, front subframe drop done, waiting on some suspension level sensor parts to arrive, and 28mm spacers and 90mm studs to finish up the lift.

So far, it looks like we'll have around 14" clearance on the lowest point, which I think is the gas tank skid plate. We might add rock rails, and some underbody protection. Not sure yet. This will likely just be a Glamper. No locking diffs, so it isn't a Cayenne.

After we finish this, we'll be starting one on our 2023 Ford Lightning, Likely with a 3" lift and with some sort of Trailer with extra batteries, and a foldout flexible solar panel system with somewhere around 3kw of production. We have a single axle trailer, that we'll likely lift, and that currently has a 2000lb load rating, I think.

Keepin' moving but slow. Had to do a bunch of work to my autocross car(see pic, lower and hopefully faster with Ohlins), but after this weekend, could possibly finish the basic build.

Still need to:

  • relocate the Intercoolers (just make some brackets to move them forward a bit)
  • install the radiator mount
  • install the winch mount bumper
  • install the winch (superwinch 12k)
  • install the bumper, headlights, turnsignals. Went with an older S-line Q7 bumper because the parking sensors are on the bottom and might clear whatever lightbar/bullbar I get.
  • choose what eurowise light/bull bar I want
  • acquire the S-line fender trim showing in the second pic. I really like the look, but it's super expensive OEM, and the chinese versions take a month and a half to get here.
  • hack a Prinsu rack onto the top.
  • relocate the rear view camera and remove/relocate rear parking sensors.
  • Decide on how to do rock rails, buy or build.
  • start working on the cargo area
  • possibly choose a roof top tent

Autocross season started, so the Ohlins install on the Cayman took precedence, and before that even, the solar powered Mini-split AC install for the garage, cuz IMA wimp...

This powers it, and charges our Ford Lightning Daily driver.

Intercoolers relocated forward, winchmount bumper installed.

Getting close...

Some trimming around the intercoolers, then some aluminum mesh on the lower turn signal vents, and some modification to the turnsignals themselves since this is a 2008 S Line bumper, as my original parts won't fit quite right, but this year bumper had the parking sensors on the lower part of the bumper, clearing the Bull/Light bar.

I doubt this will leave the pavement for much more than dirt roads, and snowy roads to ski areas, but it'll look good doing it!

The Q7 drivetrain isn't really made for rock crawling, so I'll likely take it easy on it.

Mesh screen actually came out OK. The parts that aren't ok, should be covered mostly by the Eurowise bull bar. Which still needs to be ordered. It's a good 10 footer.
Probably be some lead time on that, as they are moving warehouses, and as my options are raised version that clears the parking sensors, and light bar tabs on top to clear the fairlead.
I'm guessing a couple weeks to a month on the bullbar. Then lighting decisions and wiring.

The correct piece for the turnsignal gap is hard to find anywhere other than Lithuania.

I may buy them eventually, but $160 for a couple pieces of plastic that will take weeks to get here, made me DIY for $12.00 Hopefully it won't block too much airflow.

Turn signals aren't the correct ones for this year bumper, so they fit less than perfect as well.

Pulled all the spare tires stuff I don't need out of the spare tire area, and I have a ton of room for Electronics, second battery, AirCompressors, etc.

Just waiting on a the plastic Headlight mounting brackets, and new Headlight lenses, since one was broken in the accident.

Then, back up on jackstands to re-install the rear swaybar, recenter the subframes, and torque everything down, bleed brakes, do a coolant flush, Oil change, Diff fluid change,
and take it in for an alignment, and finally, add the Brembo logos to the calipers and a couple more coats of clearcoat on them, and start working on
the racking system.

Hey... Headlights...

still need to replace the lens on the drivers side. Also, because I used a 2008 SLine bumper on my 2012 Q7, I need to pull
the front end off again, and pull the wiring harness and put in the one from the 2012, as the old harness is not compatible with
the LED turn signals... Crap.:disrelieved:

It's finishing up pretty well. Taking a 1500 mile trip to Angel Fire to test it out.

Starlink Hammock is working pretty good, getting 65mb/s+ while moving.

Have a few trim pieces to acquire, a Eurowise bull/light bar to choose, rock rails to purchase, rack to build (Sherpa parts), and a front skid plate to fabricate to protect the intercoolers.

Took forever to get to this point, through kid graduations, moves to college, setting up and then competing in the Autocross car, but the light at the end of the tunnel is here, finally.

This is an epic build. Q7, Cayenne, Touareg are underrated bases for an overlanding rig. What kind of 4WD drive does this Q7 have, does it also have a reduction gear like the first generation Cayenne, for example?

This is an epic build. Q7, Cayenne, Touareg are underrated bases for an overlanding rig. What kind of 4WD drive does this Q7 have, does it also have a reduction gear like the first generation Cayenne, for example?
It's full-time AWD (Quattro) and unlike the Cayenne and Toureg's, I don't think ever had any lockable diffs available. It's not something I'm building for serious offroading, just something with enough clearance to be able to stay out of trouble on most fire-roads( and get itself unstuck).

More of a facilitator for glamping.
