Just picked this up on 6/17/2022. I traded my 2004 Xterra with one of my Instagram followers key for key. I've been a Land Rover fanatic since watching my first Camel Trophy in the early 90's. I got bored of the Xterra and it wasn't comfortable for me. I posted up looking to trade for a discovery. This fell in my lap the morning of 6/17 and by 8PM I was driving it home.

Current Modifications:

Voyager sliders
Voyager rear tire carrier
Frontrunner slimline II roof rack
OEM Snorkel
Lightforce Venom and Strykers
Midland MXT 275
General Grabber ATX 275 65 18 tires
ARB Bull Bar
Atlantic British Coil Conversion with EAS
sPod

Ordered:
Terrafirma Wheels
L663 center caps
Rigid ultraswing with fold down table

Full walkthrough video here:

After about 7.5 hours of garage time today 6/19.

The day I went to inspect it. A close eye will see what I've done to it so far..

Congratulations on the Land Rover! As a current owner of a 5.0sc Jaguar XJL and having owned 2 Jaguars from the era of the LR3, I can say that they aren't as bad as people make them out to be. Definitely expensive to fix when something does go wrong though.

Is this a 4.4 v8 or the 4.0 v6?

It’s the 4.4. Drivetrain is solid. Some electronic sensor stuff going on but I’m not too worried about it. Everything works well and it’s got a clean title and good maintenance history. Of course, anything can happen.

The 4.4 is a much sturdier engine than the updated 5.0. We had an S type with the 4.2 with a 140k miles when we sold it. Had to replace the coolant reservoir and valve cover gaskets but otherwise was very solid!

Tires are a bit soft...... Looks good!

Great find! I hope you enjoy it. My wife and I had matching LR4s and they are super capable vehicles. Maintenance and modifications can get expensive, but it will quickly turn into a love / hate relationship.

Love the ARB summit bumper. IMO it is the best bumper. And it's crash tested. Go over the voyager parts very carefully. They are known to rust. If you catch it early, and treat it with a rust inhibitor, they will last you the life of the vehicle.

Also grab a GAP IID tool and create an account on lucky8 off road's website. The former will help you diagnose and test everything, while also allowing you to make changes to the BCM. The later company will have everything that you need moving forward. If it's not on their website, they can find it for you.

Here is mine before we traded it in:

The voyager stuff is rusted and the tire swing had the mount fall off. I'm going to have them fix that at work. Sliders are crusty, but I painted them already. Roof rack is in good shape. I've got a gap tool coming from lucky 8 this week.

Awesome! You're ahead of the power curve. I think you're really going to enjoy your new ride

Today I was able to sneak in some stuff.
  1. Adams clay bar all of the paint
  2. Adams graphene ceramic coating all paint, plastic, and trim
  3. De hazed the headlights. (They weren't bad, but wanted them better)
  4. Installed my CVT awning.

Looks great! I love the pictures of it in front of the dealer with the older and newer models. Really shows the transformation LR went through over the years. The LR3s and LR4s were definitely the last of a dying breed.

Update. I haven't been keeping up w/ the thread the way I'd like to. Sold the voyager rack and put on a frontrunner. Also added the FR maxtrax mount, LED's, repaired the rear tire carrier, axe / shovel holder for fishing poles on the rack, etc.

Nothing super major other than the fact I got some electrical kinks worked out which makes me super happy. Truck still runs and looks amazing. Lack of ground clearance is a concern, but getting stuck through muck and ruts doesn't seem possible. I also re-wired the sPod for a cleaner install which came out great.
