Onwards now, into 2020. What a year.

During 2019 and the early part of 2020 we were planning a 4 week trip in Scandinavia in the Summer. A run from the UK, across to Holland, up through Germany, ferry to Finland, drive up to Nordkapp, then have a leisurely drive South along the Norwegian coast, back through Sweden, Denmark and Germany back to the UK.

So the back end of 2019 and early 2020 saw the start of some work preparing the 130 for the "2020 Road Trip".

The main things we needed to do was to give the truck a good once over and service to give it the best chance of covering 4 or 5000 miles without any (??), or too many, problems and to sort out auxiliary power and a few gadgets a gizmos. Being an engineer, this, of course, grew arms and legs .... "because I can" !!! More of that to follow.

One of the issues I had was a rusty bulkhead that let nearly as much water in as it kept out! So one job was to strip the dash, do some repairs and rebuild the dahs with some extra goodies added along the way.

Once the dash was stripped, it became painfully apparent, the extent of the repairs was much more than first anticipated - I should have known better ..... but hey, onwards an upwards and some temporary repairs done, with a view to a replacement bulkhead sometime in the future.

As an engineer as well, there are certain things I don't do because I know it'll be a gateway to more upgrades and modifications.

A difficult balance :sunglasses: :innocent:. Do you do it, because it's helpful/useful and interesting, or do you not do it, to avoid that gateway......... :tongueclosed::tearsofjoy:

So - 2020 - COVID strikes and spoils all the plans.
With all ideas of a Scandinavia trip in tatters, work all over the place, confusion about what/when/where, all I can do is remain hopeful and do a few jobs on the truck, hoping we'll get a break and the chance to use it.

So much of the work through 2020 was limited to relatively straight forward stuff, maintenance and adding a few auxiliaries, but always with the hope in mind that we'd get out on the road at some point during the year.

Little did we realise, at the time, that it was never going to happen.

Jobs done during the early to mid part of the year:
Since the dash was already in bits, I took the opportunity to get on with mostly electrical stuff, sort out some dreadful mods by previous owners, add auxiliary power supplies, relays, switching, gauges etc.. etc....

Always looks worse than it really is to start with.

While sorting out some of the electrical stuff, a few bits of maintenance and other mechanical improvements were also carried out.

Timing belt change, blowing exhaust gasket replaced, and a new radiator fitted.
And a start on sorting out a few engine bay and front lights wiring gremlins.
And the winch sorted out.

One of the final touches for 2020 was the tribute to my past in classic cars.
A custom made steering wheel boss adapter to fit the steering wheel out of a 1977 MK1 Ford Granada 3.0 S
