Havent made a build thread for anything in a long time but figured it would be a good way to get more involved and stay involved as I am typically very to myself and build things in the cover of night. Kidding, but anyways I bought back my dads old '70 GMC k25 from a friend who let it sit and rot in his yard for 16 years until i contacted him and bought it back. Truck was my dads daily when I was in grade school and had a blown 400 small block with a 4" lift on 33s with a warn winch up front. We have plenty of videos of where the truck appears in the background and a few of us on camping trips in it. That said, it is very sentimental and I wont be building it into anything hardcore.

Plan:
Restomod the truck into an updated but still nostalgic highboy style rig that is both reliable and fun to drive on the street but will get me through most trails as well as to the slopes in the winter, pulling knowledge from my experience in offroad racing as well as fabrication to make a Dual Purpose Daily driver

Current state (to be updated as tasks are taken on/completed)
Engine:
409ci small block is at the engine shop being machined and having bottom end assembled (wip)
- Edelbrock 400 block, 4 bolt mains with splayed bolts (done)
- Scat rotating assembly, forged pistons, H beam rods (done)
144 weiand blower (done)
Performer RPM heads (wip)
FiTech Fuel Injection
Custom ground clay smith cam
update factory a/c to vintage air (or similar) unit

Suspension:
Atlas 4" lift leaf pack with expedition rear springs
Custom shock mounts front and rear for Fox bypasses

Brakes:
Cpp Hydra-boost system
Rebuild front disc set up
convert rear to disc

Steering:
Offroad Design crossover steering w/ ram assist and 2wd steering box
Reid Racing knuckles

Interior:
Restore bench seat
cut out and patch rusted areas in floor pan
swap rubber floor mat with carpet kit
sound-deaden & insulate

this list will obviously change and have things added but these are the main things as the short term goal is to get it back on the road asap. Pictures to follow to give you all an idea of where im at as well as what is being worked on.

not much of an update, but I revised the shock mounts and should be cutting one out to test fit it in about a week or two (hopefully). also... any one have leaf spring recommendations? I was thinking about going with atlas since they have leafs on the shelf for my rig but curious if anyone has any other suggestions.

Awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing this go together. I'm a sucker for ideas going from custom CAD work to actual parts on a build, looks stout!

Very nice start even better to have it back in the family I am sure. I would look into deaver springs if you are wanting a little more than off the shelf parts. You can have them make you a set of custom packs tailored to exactly what you want. I have had 2 sets build by them in the past and absolutely loved them.

well.. got a hold of a file for a 12" stroke 3.0 triple bypass to test fit and boy am I glad I did, not sure why I thought the original dimensions would work but here is the current progress on a full revision of the shock mount to fit that size shock properly

I've been inactive just busy with work and working on the truck, havent had too much time to share but the engine is about ready to go in, got the front end back under the truck with new custom Off Road Design leaf springs and started installing the rears as well with the shackle flip (also Off Road Designs).

Found out I need to shorten the shock towers about 3.5" , once the engine is in i should have about 5" of plunge left in the shocks. The shock you see is a 12" 3.0 quad bypass from fox which I will be running up front and similar in the rear once i find another set.

Next up is finishing the rear spring install, install the cross over steering and reconnect the steering column, plumb the brake lines and drop the engine in!

Pictures to follow

It’s been over a year since I updated, I will post more in detail everything that has been accomplished. The short summary: I moved the truck up to where I live now, worked on it almost daily through 2020. I did all the electrical, plumbing, design and fab myself and drove it for the first time since it was parked over 20 years ago. Will post a better update shortly, enjoy this pictures for now

Awesome build, love those round-fender K-series trucks (and Blazer/Jimmys). It looks like it's come a long way in the year between posts. Perfect stance, and the blown, EFI small black is so cool. As great as LSs are (I have had a ton of LS vehicles, still have a blown LS7 sand rail) it's awesome to still see a SBC built right in some old iron.
