ALCON,

If you have an extended cab, full size truck, you likely only carry two people.

In my case, it’s two people and one dog. Rather than have Sota, our dog jump onto the tiny bench seat and curl his 70 pounds up, ive decided to remove the rear bench seat and install a level floor for a dog bed, underneath storage, and Velcro or molle panel on the back wall. I’ll upload photos as the project progresses.

Did the same thing in my Nissan Frontier. Backseats never get used for people but I have two 80ish pound puppers. Not having the seat gives them so
Much more room to lay down and because there’s no risk of them falling off the seat into the footwell i think it’s actually much safer for them when we are off road.

Did you put down carpet on the wood/material you installed?

right now I’m applying an exterior grade urethane on all my plywood, then I was thinking about carpet on the platform my dog will lay/sleep/sit on. Also, any recommendations for my back wall?
I’m thinking waterproof with spar urethane as well, then have an area on both side near the doors for storage (molle or Velcro) then the center be a giant Velcro slab for patches or area for stickers? Sometimes I think too much storage is possible, gotta leave some space for art.

Mine is carpeted. Gives the dogs way more grip. With bare wood they would just slide around. On my back wall I have storage bins that run the width of the cab and are about 6 inches out and 10 deep. Gives me plenty of space for extra stuff.

I'm working on the same thing for my 2017 Silverado. Building carpeted wood shelves, installing accessory power distribution and an inverter. Trying to keep it modular so I can put the back seat in *relatively* easily if I ever need to. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out. I'm sure you'll probably have come up with better solutions for certain problems. I'm not an engineer or a cabinet maker lol.

I took the larger portion of the 60/40 seat out fir a trip and never put it back. Then the 80 pound puppyhorse came to live with us. She has her own bed in there now. I keep the smaller seat as a jump seat, and occasionally use it for that.

My rig is a 2011 Tahoe.

Here are photos of pre-carpet fittment.
Some notes: this is all done with a 12’ 2x4, one 5’x8’ 1/4” plywood, and random screws I found. I also had to get 3x 1.5” bolts to replace the OEM ones for the back panel.

All the plywood has been cut down to 5’ sections, which will leave you with a longer, but stubbier section, which I mounted underneath. I wanted the wood to just touch the front seats when they were in the most rear position, which is about 30”.
This actually worked well in allowing me to create a “foot notch” where I can stand on the truck to get to the roof and access cargo from a rack. The legs underneath were cut to 7” tall, which I haven’t looked for a plastic tote for storage organization, but will probably end up with plastic
Shoe boxes.

I also decided to cut a notch where the cup holders come out of the back of the center console. This allows for it to fold down and me to place a covered plastic Tupperware as a built in water dish and access to mount a 12v inverter underneath.

I got marine rated carpet at Lowe’s, but wish I went with something a little thicker for our dog to be able to grab onto.

I’ll post final products soon!
