When it came to power for me I just spent some money upfront and went with a bluetti eb150 solar generator, it last forever and worked great across my trip through Colorado and Utah offroading, I used a victron dc to dc charger wired into the truck to charge while I drive and offroad.
I use a 589 Fab spare tire mount with tie down to put it in my Diesel ZR2 and it keeps it standing to limit the amount of room it takes up. Works great.
I drive a 2019 colorado diesel, highly modified, not afraid one bit to cross a mountain or Ford a stream. But you are right many are afraid. I try to be as far off grid as possible. My recent overland trip across the rockies by means of offroad was a good test of that.
