Look into the new soft shackles. Much safer then a steel shackle. Also same thing with winch line. Synthetic cable is safer then metal. If it snaps it falls and looses the kinetic energy.
Also remember never fight gravity. Pull down hill with a kinetic rope, not up.

Bfg ko - great tire but was known to dry rot. Rotted in 10k miles
General red letter grabbers - great in sand and dirt. Failed quickly on rocks, horrible in light rain and deadly in snow
Toyo MT- good in mud, heavy and horrible in just about...

Have led many overland trips through North Dakota, up of Michigan, and Arkansas. Looking towards Colorado and Montana this summer .
