Jnicks, just to be sure, your note refers to fire ban which I’m guessing means we can’t have a campfire, and does not mean the area is closed because of fires? What kind of temps were you seeing on your trip?
Hi again, still committed to our July 18-25 overland trip with my son but wildfires are already beginning in the Sierras . Was planning on wheeling & camping at elevation in Sierra & Sequoia National Preserves/Parks/Forests to beat the heat but may get skunked by the fires. Any suggestions for...
Thanks Proton, planning to aim for higher elevations. Any suggested trails you like? The Taco has rear locker but no winch so harder obstacles are out. I rock crawl in NC but this is our first overlander trip.
I'm locked in on a mid July overlanding trip. I'll be driving a rented Tacoma overlander I'm picking up in Las Vegas & hoping to gather some suggestions for routes through cooler temps to the west/northwest of Las Vegas. Looks like the Sierras are the best temps and I see Sequoia & Sierra...
Hi all, we've decided to postpone our trip until more favorable conditions return. Hope to be out in late May or perhaps Fall. Thanks for your help and I'll be back on the forum then & hope to find some local teammates to join us then. Have a blessed holiday season, Bruce
Not sure what is going on with my laptop overlandbound app but my phone shows more current posts on this thread than are listed here, so I'm repeating a post from last night to ask for your insights.
What do you think of rogue dispersed camping amid the current restrictions at Anza Borrego...
Looking kind of grim for allowable overnighting. Thomas Mt dispersed camping was closed due to fires. I've placed a call to local ranger district to confirm. Dispersed camping is closed in Annza Borrego SP but seems big enough to risk it. Mojave is still open to dispersed camping at the...
Sounds really great, we were planning on dispersed camping each night of our 8 day trip n we’re gonna hit Anza borrego cuz it’s warmer n add Mojave to cut down on total miles. If we include Death Valley it pushes us to 7 hours more driving plus off-road time. Any feedback in our plan ...
Thanks for the heads up guys, we will see where our travels land us n check status but it sounds like BLM land is my safest bet for planning camp spots
Thanks for all the feedback everyone, great to have local knowledge. Is there a map or book that offers trail ratings? My map Anza doesnt show trail ratings just Jeep Trail vs hiking etc. I've got an Anza guide book on order and have not looked into a Mojave guide book yet. The only place...
Welcome to the East Coast. Do you think a week is too long in Anza Borrego or should we mix it up with a few days in Mojave or Death Valley? (we are starting in Las Vegas). Thx
Thanks for the feedback, sounds like our solo plan has legs to go forward. The rental Taco recovery gear includes a shovel , tow strap & Max Trax, but no winch. Any other items we should include for recovery? Any chance you & your wife will be there during that week of Jan 5-12? Thx again
