    Ruby Rhod, a 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5

Ride is fine, it has a bit more sway due to the height (increased CoG + roll couple) but it's not at all bad. If anything, the additional height is a little more confidence inspiring to bomb over stuff on-road like freeway transitions or driveways. Running Yokohama Geolandar G015s. the stock...

    Ruby Rhod, a 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5

Well it's a shit picture but the kitchen is "finished". I put that in quotes because there are still some little things I'm going to want to add and change, but overall I'm pretty pleased with it. The HDPE cutting board has some mass, so I need to put in some kind of strap to keep the whole...

    Ruby Rhod, a 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5

Thanks! Donald was actually the inspiration for it as well. Did a little bit of work this morning, got my Rally Innovations bullbar mounted and my Rough Country light bar on top of that. This light bar has an amber "DRL" to it as well, which I'm going to wire up on the foglight circuit, and...

    Ruby Rhod, a 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5

Oh hey, I'm bad at posting updates. On the camp kitchen: It's almost done! I've been doing little bits and pieces here and there. Both drawer slide sections are in, and I just need to do some final fitment cuts to make room for the stove, then take everything apart and paint it. I'll get a...

Small photo, but the first part of the build, the outermost box, is done. And it fits as intended. Next up is to build the inner drawers. I only have one day off this weekend so we'll see how much gets done, but I'm optimistic that it'll be done before our camping trip next weekend. :) edit...

    What is the one spice

If I could only have one, it'd probably be Old Bay. I could put that shit on anything. If it was my spouse, who's really the culinary one, I'm guessing it'd either be Cumin, Cayenne pepper, or Paprika.

    Scottles Worth the Price?

Skottles seem neat but like many others have expressed, it's difficult to justify the price. Even the cheap one at $320 is pretty steep for what is a single cooking device. My Coleman two-burner Triton stove was under a hundred bucks, add in some money for cookware and I can still come in for...

    Anyone actually use back-up cameras?

I never really cared for them before but after getting the Subaru with one stock, I get it. I still rotate my head around, but day-to-day it's nice to have a much better idea of where the edge of the bumper is, and when out in the thick it's come in handy for reversing up roads.

    Quietest ATs?

My Yokohama Geolandar G015 ATs are damn near as quiet as the stock Bridgestones that came on my Subie. Very much appreciated as this thing gets driven daily. Not as aggressive as some designs, but for a car that does get taken to work and around town and isn't doing any intense mudding / rock...

Working on designing a pull-out kitchen for the Subie. The design constraints are that it has to fit with the rear seat folded up, and it has to fit with the cooler on top. I designed a model in SketchUp that I'll be using for making my cut list. The idea is that the main box and first...

    New Subaru Forester!

It's not a bad idea for sure, and it's gonna be my next investment personally. Gotta protect those critical components.

Nice! I should head up to Shasta while the weather is still nice, but with MNF basically in my backyard and it being just so damn expansive, I could probably go many, many times and still find new things. :) thanks!

    Ruby Rhod, a 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5

I took it out twice at stock height and honestly aside from smacking the front bumper twice (which left some small gashes underneath, but nothing at all bad), it did great. Definitely go and see what it's capable of first, there's no sense in paying for the parts if you don't need it. At least...

Yup! A local buddy is on here and I knew of it's existence, seemed like a good place to be :)

Got my lift kit from LP Aventure installed last night. 2" lift, the car is notably higher (big surprise) but not wildly so and still drives like normal, which is what I was hoping for. The LP Aventure kit is nice, it feels like they put more thought in to it than some of the other options out...

    New Subaru Forester!

LP Aventure, Anderson Design & Fabrication, Rally Innovations, RalliTek, Primitive Racing. There's probably heaps others but those are all the ones I've been eyeballing for various stuff like lifts (I just installed an LP Aventure lift in my Outback tonight), skid plates, bull bars / light...

    Camp entertainment

When we bought it, we bought a nice carrying case that has an integrated battery solely with the idea of taking it places. Naturally, we get to camp and realize we completely forgot to even think about it.

    Camp entertainment

Don't have anything *yet*, but my spouse and I had some stuff we were talking about. We want to get an iPad for navigation and so we can load media on to it (music for driving, TV shows for camp) and have that. We have a Nintendo Switch. For less technology-oriented stuff, we've talked about...

What part of northern Cali are you from?

I live in Rohnert Park but it's not uncommon to see me in Santa Rosa or Sebastopol, where this particular picture was taken. If you see me, give me a wave! Pretty sure I have the only red Outback on gold Sparcos in the area :)

    Let's Talk Cast Iron

More than likely it's just the care you put in to it. Once the first layer or two worth of polymerized cooking oil is down, the base metal underneath becomes moot for surface quality. As long as the oil you used has a smoke point below 425f and you put your pan in there for sufficiently long...
