First off, thieves know that a vehicle with OnStar needs to be taken offline ASAP. Cops said they drove it to a garage and pulled the plug on it quickly....experienced. Mine was driven for 15 minutes, then went dark. AND....Onstar doesn't keep prior history, only the latest position...which...
Gone.....police say don't expect it back.
Airtags - yep - great idea.
Cutoff switch - definitely.
A friend has an anti-theft device on his truck, says that the maker has never had a truck stolen....I'm going to check it out, will post the name of it.
The vehicle must be in an open area. There is no history, so they can only give you a current point location at any one time. Once it's off (GPS pulled or battery disconnected), they have no idea where it is. If it's covered in a garage, can't see where it is either.
In my case, they drove for...
Welcome to the new reality...where criminals do as they please with impunity.
My full-sized Silverado rig that I spent two years building was stolen yesterday...between insurance, police, OnStar, and others...just a frustrating experience of mostly (not all) people that don't care very much...
I will have to find out more about this Houston guy.
PnP doesn't have anything within 150 miles.
And Hollander is fine, except I want to look for aftermarket parts....they don't easily handle those on their website.
I'm looking to stake out some places and look for bumpers and rack parts...
My needs:
1. Get a little bit of ground clearance (I'm not lifted yet, but will do a 3 or 4" sometime)
2. Ability to accommodate a winch
3. Rear bumper must provide swingaway at least for full-size spare, preferably also for jerry cans. It's ok if I have to add that on, just needs to be able to...
I don't want to knock folks that love to spend $40k in adds to their vehicle, but I'm a bit more cost-conscious and am willing to put some sweat equity into the mods I put on my 2018 Chevy Silverado.
That being said, my immediate area absolutely is horrible for finding salvage parts...just...
You might try Sam Houston National Forest or any of the forest areas NE from Houston into Arkansas. mostly paved and gravel roads (except for Arkansas).
If you want a beach trip, 3 hours down to Corpus and get into Padre Island National Seashore --- drive on the beach and camp if you want...
ARE Z Series I think....I'll double check that.
The mattress I made custom (I've done it for a few others too) but basically it is 4" memory foam inside a giant envelope made from 90D ripstop nylon that is breathable but treated for water and dirt resistance - I got the fabric from...
OK @RoarinRow - pics of my theft of your idea.....check the cap interior pics...thanks for the ideas, worked like a champ.
Anyone with a cap Yakima rail/rack install, the bolts are #10, so the coupling nuts and eye bolts are both #10. There are a couple that need cranked down to get enough...
Just got back...here's my after trip report:
My goal were to:
1) check the area, trails, other sites
2) test out some new gear (new Yakima rack and Rolle basket)
3) get away from humans for a while
I circumnavigated the lake off-road, not highway. Took several rides into the lake area at...
Im in Ouachita right now..dispersed camping off of 47.
Very crowded, some sites showing overuse and undercare but generally pretty good.
Spent a couple days getting the layout of the places..tomorrow .ore exploring.
I am doing a first run up to Ouachita starting out from Houston very early Thursday, will be in the area until Tuesday.
More of a test run to check out the area, identify some decent dispersed sites.
However, I cringe at the potential crowd headed out for Labor Day...ugh.
Anybody in the area...
Some thoughts:
1) The answer to "Do I need a truck?" is always yes, the only differences are in why
2) SUV vs Truck - I would think about how much you move big stuff - furniture, etc... If you are planning a move in the next year or so, are going to be buying appliances, heavy/large items -...
Agree, it's easy to do.
I don't feel inadequate with a full-sized truck....I am able to store much more gear and gas and supplies, can sleep in my cap, plenty of comfortable roomy cabin to enjoy the road between trails and in town. I never intended to crawl rocks with my truck and never was a...
I am slightly delayed getting my Yakima rack on due to Hurricane Laura, but when it's done I will post an update. Your rig is very similar setup to mine.
Biggest issue I am having is how to keep cooler/gear boxes from wandering around...I'm looking at installing t-rail on the DECKED top but...
