As I understand it, not all “gps” units are really gps. Some are cell based. The traditional handheld Garmin type units are gps satellite based and carry their map data onboard unlike my phone which has to have map data pre saved for times without cell coverage.
Some phones and tablets have gps...
One ounce Nalgene containers. They are nearly indestructible , leak proof and cost about $1.50 at places like REI. I have at least one that I’ve had since the 90s and still use in my lunch bag for salt every day.
DeLorme has something they call an atlas and gazetteer. Each state has its own map book. My version for California is broken into northern and southern but it’s pretty old now. Also the books are not especially small but detail is pretty good due to the larger scale.
Moving blankets (those light blue quilted ones) are cheap enough that you won’t cry if they get damaged or dirty and they work well enough. Pretty basic though.
Thanks for the Gaia help. I was poking around and found it on the desktop version. I’ll try on mobile later.
You would think every map would have a key somewhere .
I just posted the same question over in the OB1 section. Why isn’t there anything to tell what the different road lines are; dashes, dotted, outlined solid, etc. I can guess at some but I don’t like guessing.
I finally found the Gaia legend, now to find OB1’s. Maybe they’re the same.
Hi all,
Maybe I‘m just not seeing it, maybe this is obvious to everyone else but where is the map’ s legend?
I have the same issue with Gaia…there doesn’t seem to be anything to refer to that shows what the different versions of road/ trail/ path lines mean.
If anyone can point me to the legend...
OP: Any recipe that you really enjoy; make a huge batch and freeze dry it. Pasta, stroganoff, thai curry, you name it. I've read you want to keep the fat content down though as it can still get rancid if there's way too much.
M Rose: isn't there only one company making home freeze dryers? Home...
I was looking on the TNF site for closures but didn’t see Leavitt lake rd called out as closed. I think a phone call would be the best choice though.
While I was there I took five minutes to renew my fire permit. It’s easy and free so why not?
Yes. I have used Gear Aid “Tent Sure tent floor sealant”. It’s a brush on urethane sealer liquid. If the old coating is flaking you need to get the loose bits off first. If it’s just old and getting that weird sticky and funny smelling feel this stuff just paints right over it.
