    Fly Fishing

I definitely got into overlanding so I can fish more. I've spent time fishing for trout and other species in the southeastern US. But, I would like to get out to "The Rocky Mountain Flyway" and spend a couple months in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Montana and Idaho. I'm getting old now and I have...

    I thought I would re-introduce myself

I've been a member for a few years now. But, I found I wasn't doing much camping or overlanding in my Trailhawk . I recently upgraded to a full-sized Silverado 2500. I'm not quite ready to get out there yet. (Hopefully SOON!) I also spend most of my time in Florida now. But, my plan is to take...

What are you using to mapping your journey and navigating your route?

Our primary off-road navigation is Gaia GPS Premium on a iPad Air Pro. We use Google Maps for getting to the trailheads and finding supplies & fuel. Our jeep has built-in navigation. But, we mostly use it for recording tracks when we're out exploring. We also record tracks on the iPad via GAIA...

    2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Build

I really don't do much sand or mud and snow is all but a non-factor in SC where 4H is required. I do most of my wheeling on steep mountain roads with rocks, ruts, waterfalls, & ledges. I haven't necessarily needed to use my locker either. But, I usually keep it in 4low, manual gear 1st or 2nd...

Running trails solo as an overlander

I think knowing the capability of your rig and your capability as a driver is paramount to having a safe & enjoyable trip. We recently went on a trip. We were by ourselves but the trail had dozens of modified Jeeps using it because it's a very popular wheeling trail. According to the data I...

    Georgia Traverse

I did the eastern half a few weeks ago. Going back next week to do some more. But, the plan is to spend more time fishing for trout. You shouldn't have any issues finding dispersed camping. (Some places to fill up on the weekend though)

    Georgia traverse-recent/current road closures?

Just be sure to download the desired maps along with your route. Until recently, I would just use the default GAIA Topo map when I saved a route. It worked fine. But, downloading tiles from the FS Road & Trail maps makes a huge difference when you're off grid and don't have service.

    Anyone actually use back-up cameras?

I spent many years driving trucks on the highways across America. (Using my mirrors constantly.) My KL is the very first vehicle I've owned in 40+ years that has a back up camera, blind spot warning and lane departure controls. I must admit, I've gotten pretty spoiled to the back up camera. What...

Georgia Mountains the week of Aug 9th - 14th anyone?

I will be going to N. Georgia August 9th for a few days. Hopefully, not only to do some exploration in the Chattahoochee NF , but I hope to do some fishing. I would like to find some people who could show me around the "Cooper Creek WMA" ; "Chattahoochee WMA" ; "Dicks Creek" ; "Rock Creek"...

Yes. It's updated regularly. Just before your trip you can download MVUM maps of the area of you can record a route and download maps just for your route.

    Georgia traverse-recent/current road closures?

Get the GAIA GPS App. You can download the US Forest Roads & Trails map and the MVUM (USFS) maps with a premium subscription. You can also go to the USFS website. (But you can't download maps to have when you're wheeling off-grid) - https://www.fs.fed.us/ivm/index.html

National Parks - the most recent Covid victims

But, you run into a similar issue that you have with firearm laws. (It only hurts those who are law abiding.) Criminals will always do what they do disrespect and disobey the law. Say, you find a spot and you get a permit, the next day you leave the spot and move on. Then you have another...

Could taking a shower or washing a pan make you an outlaw?!?

I think he was mistaken. We use our dish water to make sure our fire is out and have never had any problem. I do the same thing after a shave or a sponge bath. (Of course we live in the south where FREE America still exists) I'm not going to worry about it until they start arresting all the...
