None so far which I’m actually extremely sad about. I even swore I was going to get stuck in a field drive back in May, didn’t happen. They just keep hanging around in my recovery gear tote. One downfall definitely is the weight though. While they fit in a Wolf Pack, they make it very heavy to...

That’s the one I got. Very happy with it so far. I did use some clear silicone on the joints and screw holes to seal against moisture and interior rust.
It sounds like the general agreement is that 13-18 psi is the sweet spot. Now to find a good air compressor that’s worth while without breaking the bank.
So I know a major component of doing any decent trail/rough road driving is to air down the tires. As long as lower speeds are maintained, it’s pretty safe and improves your ride as well as lowers your chance for puncture. My question is, is it safe to do on a wheel that doesn’t have a beadlock...
I have read that you just have to have a SIM card in them to activate the GPS. They said you just have to refuse the data plan that the cell carrier asks you to have. Makes sense, so I wonder what else I could run off of it that way. I have other apps I use for work that I might be able to use...
Took it across the field, across several farm paths and a creek crossing yesterday with zero issues. Never even wiggled. None of the mount is magnetic, I got the mount that actually squeezes the phone and has the Qi charger in the back.
I bought a phone mount and charger from Pro Clips USA and I am super happy with it. I was able to do the complete install in under 10 minutes with no permanent damage to my vehicle. The phone is extremely stable and everything I needed was provided. The mount is positioned well allowing me...
Had it loaded down with my work tools and recovery tote as some fields were still muddy. Also got my phone mount and charger from Pro Clips USA. Really happy with it, easy to mount, no permanent damage to the vehicle and rugged as all get out. I will be getting mounts from them in the future as...
I currently am running Gaia on my phone. But I would like to get a tablet that’s a little bit larger for navigation. Is there a tablet out there that will run Gaia without having to pay for cell service for GPS? In my experience hot spotting off of a phone isn’t as accurate and uses a ton of...
Made some more progress on the Explorer over the past couple of weeks. I got the Wilco mounts for the Quick Fists mounted on the basket. Also got the Wolf Pack totes in and packed. I might do some readjusting as I think I want to find something smaller and spilt up my recovery gear into two bins...
So in more looking, 235/65R18’s and 255/60R18’s offer the same side wall size, but the 255 is wider and has a higher load rating. It would make sense to go that route, or the 265/60R18’s which give me 1/2 an inch more sidewall than stock.
Being that I’m more concerned about towing than...
Im actually torn on what tires to put on. I can narrow them up and get 235/65R18’s on the stock suspension. Also considering 255 or 265/60R18’s. My gut tells me not to worry about the .25 inches in width and get the higher section width with the 65’s.
Got the Apex roof basket built and installed. Seems like it’s pretty decent quality. I used some clear silicone on all the bolt holes and joints to protect against rust on the inside. Wolf Pack totes should be here this week. Working on figuring out how to mount my shovel holders right now.
Thank you for the advice. I’m definitely leaning away from the kit all together. I think I’m better off with quality tires, improving the front bumper ground clearance and weight handling as planned.
I guess I owe you an apology as well as I took it wrong. Every time I have ever tried to ask for advice in the hobby I get told my vehicle is incapable of being a true overland rig. I realize the boundaries of the vehicle and don’t plan on passing them.
That being said, running stock rims and...
Pardon me for wanting to try and learn about how to improve the capability of my vehicle to enjoy a hobby. However, I have a feeling that the size tires underneath it means nothing. I see plenty of pictures of people using fully capable Subaru’s tackling some of the hardest trails out there...
Great point, so dive deeper on this. Would I be better off to not do the Timbren bump stops and instead do the lift kit instead of a leveling kit? It would do a 2” rear lift and 1.25” front lift. So it levels it some, but not as much. It may help with my towing squat as well as ground clearance...
I have a 2018 Ford Explorer 4x4 that I am definitely wanting to put rear Timbren bump stops on. Having traded it in from my truck, I plan to tow quite a bit. I’ve already done so a few times and it’s handled minor loads well. It is rated to tow 5,000 pounds, but the Timbren stops will help...
