Hmmm.... we also got Covid'd (a new word Mr Webster!) for Loveland in 2020. We are doing a LOT of travel catch up this year but have a gap in July. From BC, Bend OR would be VERY doable. Hopefully we can pull this together :-)
Love the minimalist background behind the bison. The texture behind the elk is great too. Both focus your attention on the great subjects (as they are focused on us!)
On the ”wet” coast of Canada winters are dreary, wet and muddy. In my advancing years I much prefer a warmer, drier climate - shorts and t-shirts are far preferable to sweaty rain gear. The birds and animals have had it figured out forever. Migrate with the seasons and get the best of both...
As an old guy with no hair the title of this topic kinda caught my eye :-)
Seriously though, it's all too common a human trait to think you can ”buy” an experience. As my Grandma used to say ”you get out of something what you are willing to put into it” or ”no pain, no gain” or etc, etc...
Most of the logging road restrictions (Mosaic is the worst) are on the south half of the island (south of Campbell River). Once you are north of that things open up considerably. There are TONS of interesting things to see and I have marked quite a few on the OB map. Because we couldn't travel...
Welcome Anthony! It looks like your Jeep will be a great overlanding vehicle, but don't hesitate to get out in whatever you have available. The experience is more important than the wheels :-)
Welcome to OB! You have obviously put a TON or work into your rig and it looks more than ready to get going. I hope you and your family enjoy getting out in the "dirt" :-)
Hey Joe. Welcome to Overland Bound. I am also somewhat partial to the western states but over the last year I (as many others) have found that our own backyard can have many hidden treasures. The wealth of experience on these forums will, I am sure, help you find wonderful nearby destinations.
Welcome John! There is no doubt you will find OB a great resource to support your overlanding adventures. Many members on this site have a lifetime of off road experience, and willing share what they know. Most importantly, you will find this a friendly and supportive place to hang out :-)
Same kind as we use at home, like it seems most do. We have two each that stay in the trailer so we aren't having to shuffle them back and forth. One is for sleeping and the other for the rare occasion we are holed up inside (weather, bugs, bears !?!) to put behind our backs to make it more...
Now that's intriguing!! As we remain confined to our own country we re-examine those areas that are still accessible to us .... and often find those hidden gems like in your excellent photo! When you say ”Northern Saskatchewan” how far north can you realistically go in a fairly capable rig?
Thanks Alex! As our planning progresses I'm sure some local knowledge will be very helpful. If you don't mind, I'll PM you when the time comes for input. The next big milestone is July 21st when hopefully our two countries can get their act together on a re-opening plan.
Thanks for the feedback on your experience to Deadhorse! You're right, a reasonable radio and antenna is very cheap now, even in Canadian dollars :-) I have been doing a bit of reading and will definitely buy/borrow a SWR meter to properly tune my antenna.
