It's been awhile since I posted last, I wish I had some big update to report, but I haven't worked on the trailer much. It looks about the same, I did get the rear bumper tack welded into place, I have the receiver mounted into the bumper and the oval holes cut out for my LED trailer lights, but...
I got some hinges made today
I went ahead and did spot welds around the parameter of the lid to match the fenders.
I also started in on my rear bumper and receiver, no pics of that, I'll post some once I get a little more progress on it.
^^^Thanks for the compliments Midwest Overlander!
I Started skinning the roof today, I'm not to happy with it, I started in the middle and worked my way out to the sides. I was just doing short 1/4" long tack welds spaced out every 4" or so. But it still warped pretty bad. I don't have any...
Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what your reasons for wanting to replace the axel were? If you didn't need to swap the axel, I stumbled across a thread that has adapters listed to fit the tundra 5x150mm bolt pattern on the stock M416 axel, i think they were around $100-$110
Here's a link...
Here's a few links to some online trailer suppliers you can check out too, if I remember correctly I think I bought my axel through etrailer.com.
I'm thinking you might have to run a wheel adapters to get the matching 5x150mm your looking for. I lucked out on mine, 6x5.5" is fairly common...
I have thought about possibly going that route someday, A guy on YotaTech put a 5.0 H.O motor in his 85' 4 runner with good results, he's running the T-5 tranny too although Advanced Adapters no longer makes the bellhousing adapter for this swap anymore.
I'm still intrigued with the Mega...
Thanks xKennyx! One of the things that made me fall in love with the first generation 4runners is the factory removable hardtop. The rear seat was a factory option on all 84'-89' toyota 4runner's. I say option, because they were also available with a "rear seat delete" which was a metal cover...
Thanks for the compliments JusticeZ33, I agree, there is a certain satisfaction in building one from scratch over buying one.
O.Dfj, the 4runner has a Edelbrock AVS Thunder series 600cfm 4 barrel carb on it right now. I'd like to go with fuel injection someday. I've been doing a little...
Thank you. I don't know about opening my own shop though, it would be a very long waiting list as this project has taking over 4yrs and counting, lol!!!
Great work so far your trailer is looking awesome! Also nice to get some info on some of the differences in models between the U S and Canadian built military trailer, thanks for posting!
Just for fun, here's a few pics of my tow vehicle. It's an 86' toyota 4 runner, SAS, ford 302 V8 swap, 35x12.50 MT's, 6" All Pro Offroad suspension lift, etc...
I got a little work done on the trailer today, not nearly as much as I hoped. I got the cargo rack finished, wrapped the 45° corners with 16 gauge sheet metal. I thought it looked kinda plain, so I added the holes, really wish I had a press and dimple dies, that would have really given it a...
I bought another 100 ft of 1" square tubing and started working on the cargo/safari rack. It measures 4'W x 5'L by 10" deep.
^^^I got the safari rack mostly done, added more cross bars for support, just need to wrap the 45° corners with sheetmetal to give the exposed cut 1"...
^^^I finished one side step, and got the second tacked welded together.
Here's a pic of the passenger step in place.
It didn't take long to burn through 80 feet of 1" square tubing, I have just enough to finish the driverside step and add some braces between the stringers on the lid to tie...
I got a good deal on some 2" wheel spacers off CL, should fix my over site on the axel width, I guess that's what happens when you start changing dimensions halfway through the build, lol. I also got some tabs from Ballistic Fab to finish up my 3link.
