Doesn't have to be 9 days. That's the beauty of it; you can bail out in any town and head home. If you're not familiar with the route, check out ridebdr.com and have a look.
Hard to say, but Wallace ID is definitely on the BDR. So like you said, you were probably on parts of it. I did it on a R1200GS and my friends were in Tacomas. They didn't have any sketchy parts. Is your Escape kitted out for this type of adventure?
