Trying to get input from others on an idea. We have a full size truck with a camper shell we use for travelling and we take our dog with us in the back. The problem is he gets extremely hot in the summer. We did a trip last year with a seal between the cab and shell, the truck AC on full blast...
It was good. Peter's mill run was a bit of a disappointment but flagpole knob was a lot better. Had a couple spots that were a little more challenging but nothing too crazy. It would be a good place to go if you can camp and spend a few days exploring the national forrest since its 4 hours away...
Last minute day trail run if anyone is interested in joining for Peters Mill Run this Saturday. Event was created in Rally Point at the southern end of the trail.
Peters Mill Run Day Ride - Overland Bound
Going to be running the Peters Mill Run trail from South to North then checking out the overlook tower and possibly other trails in the area for the day. Will be meeting and starting at the trail head at 0930
How long did your trip end up taking? We would just be going from around Washington DC down into GA. Have to plan it around the wifes and kids school schedule.
How has the route been so far? I haven't done much more planning since I started this thread but glad to see it has helped others. I'm still stuck in Africa. Also what do yall like better Gaia or the Garmin Overlander?
Hi everyone,
I am in the super early stages of planning an overland trip up and down the east coast next summer. While looking for routes I ran across the website The Appalachian Byway and it says it is an overland route essentially along the appalachian trail from Maine to georgia. Has anyone...
We are looking at maybe going up to Green Ridge State Forrest Saturday morning and spending a few hours there, then heading down to GWNF near Bergton, VA and finding a place to camp. Doing some exploring Sunday and camping again Sunday night then heading back home Monday. If anyone is...
No I wasn't able to, had an emergency with my dog come up. We are probably going to try and do it when it opens back up in march as long as I haven't deployed yet.
So I modified it slightly. Looking at camping at the north end of Peter's Mill Run Saturday night, doing a short hike sunday morning to a nearby watch tower. Sunday during the day Peter's mill run and some national forrest roads. Another short hike at the end of it before crossing towns into...
This seems like an interesting Trail. It's 130 miles so could easily be broken into 2 or 3 days.

Monday would be fine with us (wife and 2 kis ages 8 and 5, and a dog). Any ideas on good places to go or a long stretch maybe camping in 2 different places. We haven't been able to go anywhere here yet.
Anyone interested in doing an offroad trip MLK day weekend? Looking at some exploring and camping/hiking, nothing too crazy offroad. Maybe leave saturday evening and head back Tuesday.
Anyone planning a trip this coming weekend the 4th and 5th? Thinking maybe go down to Peter's Mill run on the evening of the 4th, camp and trail ride on the 5th then come back that evening.
Are you planning on hard driving all 3 days or slower pace? I ask because I have 2 young kids. I may be in depending on work schedule. I won't know until this summer though as I am still living in Italy at the moment!
So how have you lived the RTT? Was it worth it and had it really affected the capability offroad at all? Also how has the metalcloak lift handled being fully loaded with the tent and gear? The jeep looks awesome and is very similar to how I plan on setting mine up. Oh and your pictures make me...
