    New Navigation Device iPad?

My experiences pretty much mimic yours. My latest experiment was to recently purchase the Garmin Overlander which has iOverlander integrated in it so it can be used offline. I’m planning an extended trip to Utah and Nevada in a month or so and hopefully I’ll work out any issues. I’m also going...

    NC Roll Call!

Hey guys- recently moved to NC from VA and split my time between Pinehurst and Asheville. Have been overlading for several years all over the world. Have a Jeep Gladiator that has a few accessories . If there is anything going on let me know and I’ll try to be there. Taking my oldest son, his...

    BIG BEND RANCH STATE PARK

^^^ Guale 2 is a great campsite! We spent a few weeks exploring the NP and the ranch. You will want to have a decent 4x4 with good tires as the rocks are pretty sharp. About mid April things start getting pretty warm and could potentially be life threatening. Bring plenty of water and some way...

    Am I doing gaia wrong?

Actually iOverlander works just fine out of cell phone/internet range. It’s just that you won’t be able to view any of the pictures that have been posted. We used it extensively in our 2020 Expedition to Alaska and found several nice places to camp that weren’t on any other platform.

Do I really need to bring extra gas?

I built my Gladiator for long range remote travel. In doing so I decided to add the Long Range America 17 gallon auxiliary fuel tank which brought my capacity up to about 40 gallons. I usually keep it almost empty but on a long trip last year from Virginia to Colorado and Utah I found that I...

Discussion - Building an Overland Vehicle Tips and Advice (feat Andrew White)

I’ve been a Patreon of Andrew’s for several years and have learned a lot. Now that I have more experience under my belt I find him to be a little self righteous…and I’m no longer supporting him. But for the beginner there is a lot that he shares..

What are some options for good gas mileage in overlanding vehicles?

My F-350 has over 600 mile range on 35’s. It’s a diesel but it also has a 38 gallon fuel tank. Day to day average just under 15 mpg My Jeep Gladiator gets about 18 mpg but it has a small tank (~22 gal) so I installed an 18 gallon extended range fuel tank to give me over 600 miles of range.

Who carrys a firearm with them while camping?

As I said above it was relatively easy. I had the proper paperwork filled out ahead of time, waited for the RCMP officer to ask me if I had any weapons and I replied that I had a pump action shotgun and have the paperwork filled out. He then told me to pull the truck over and bring the paperwork...

Who carrys a firearm with them while camping?

This! I went to Alaska in 2020 on a 10 week overlanding trip and of course needed to drive through Canada. I bought a relatively inexpensive pump action 12 gauge as that is allowed in Canada and along with the correct paperwork filled out ahead of time had no issues crossing legally. I had the...

I waited forever to get the Front Runner Water tank in stock for my build…then someone recommended this company for my tank. They can build just about anything you want and the price is very reasonable..check them out. https://www.themetalcompany.com/

    Garmin TREAD

While I agree that it is a lot of coin I enjoy going where there isn’t any cell phone coverage. I have been a Garmin user for many years as well and as long as you keep things updated before each trip I have found them to be pretty intuitive to use and relatively straight forward…

South America - routes and locations

Gustavo. Thank you for sharing all your pictures and videos. The pictures of the train station remind me of ones we saw in Namibia. Do you have any suggestions of where we can rent an overlanding rig in either Argentina or Chile next February. We are going to ANTARTICA and want to spend a...

    Clothing Storage

We don’t use dividers but it wouldn’t be hard to do. You could even use your cutting board modified to fit properly and not add any additional items. Since these pictures were taken I have ordered the taller tops from FrontRunner which gives you and additional 3” or so of storage as well as...

    Clothing Storage

I’ll give my $0.02 for what it’s worth. First I think it really depends on 2 things.. 1. What kind of rig you have. 2. What is the duration of your trip. In our case we have actually somewhat changed our wardrobe out so that we don’t have any whites and as much of our clothing is synthetic...

    Garmin TREAD

I am wanting to upgrade my navigation capabilities and am looking into the Garmin Tread for a variety of reasons and am looking for anyone who has direct experience with this device. Let me explain why I think this might work for us. While I know a lot of people are in love with Gaia it won’t...
