That's a lot of assumptions for a theoretical event that has zero planned details.
How about North Texas. Desert-like open spaces and in the middle of the Country. Around 2 long drive days from both the East coast and the West coast.
As far as lines and crowds, I have no solution for you...
Outside my house, I have a concealed sidearm on me at all times - where it's legal. It's a Kimber Pro Carry II 1911 in .45acp with some 'smith upgrades to trigger and hammer, XS Big Dot sights, VZ grips, and upper assembly has the Severns Hard Hat finish. (frame is aluminum) Been carrying it for...
Wow Britz, that Escape has some history. Nice. I know over the Escape forum that folks run their Escapes into some crazy locations.
I need to find some local places within easy drive distance to start getting my Escape dirty. She's been too shiny, for too long.
My current vehicle is a basically stock 2008 Ford Escape XLT.
I'm thinking about what I could add to get some overland capability, but not "over cook" it. I'll be changing vehicles in a year, maybe year and a half. That one will have overland in mind from the start.
Things I'm thinking...
I started a thread about this exact possibility. Here:
https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/ob-gathering-with-all-members-invited-possible.8722/
I hear ya man. I drive to locations for work. It's been a long year.
My thought is to be able to have all OB members, or the ones that can make it, be able to see and interact with the whole group. Sure, there can be the usual events and workshops etc. but mainly a gathering of the majority of...
If you have 1000 vehicles. 2, 3, 5,000 vehicles, it would be a nightmare to organize them in a densely wooded area. And you risk damage to the surroundings with thousand(s) of rigs moving in a concentrated area and then out again. If the location is 90% dirt/sand with slightly rolling hills or...
I just look at Burning Man for logistics. The single thing I like about Burning Man is the environmental extremes folks must survive. I bet it would be a lot easier for Overlanders. Plus the logistics of it is very impressive.
No glitter...at least I can guarantee that in my camp.
Hello all,
This was mentioned in the "Off the Grid 2017" thread, and I thought I would create a separate thread for ideas and discussion.
Would it be possible to have an (Official) Overland Bound gathering in a location that would allow basically limitless attendees? So all members could buy...
Desert area? BIG one. Bring all that you need and leave no trace. Could be epic. (Hell, even I could attend with my current pre-overland-awakening Ford Escape!)
Challenges would be heat and dust on vehicle, heat and dust on humans, wind, water storage, proper clothing etc etc.
Corrie - with...
Well...on the bright side, these are the problems you like to see. Growing pains.
Only so much Mr and Mrs OB can do in-person. Maybe a larger location. Or multiple days of trips during one event. Or regional events. Probably a little of all three.
Hello all,
Not sure where to put this. Any plans for Overland Bound keychains in the Store?
Seems like it would be a hot seller, audience considered.

Just a couple of ideas for the mix...
You could take the list of folks who have specifically requested to be a part of the convoy, and take the first 60 in order of Membership numbers. Basically, seniority. 61-70 could be put on notice as alternates if any of the 60 cancel.
Also, perhaps a...
That's excellent info. Thank you. The truck's primary job will be to tow a 5th wheel - 10,000 pound max gvwr most likely.
My current research is on pickup trucks that lend well to overland, but have 3/4 ton tow capacity. Its...proving difficult. I'll be starting a research/build thread down the...
Welcome Max. I'm new to overlanding as well, but we all start somewhere. I will be pulling a 5th wheel with my future rig, so I'll be putting together a pickup truck as well. Eyeballing an (older) 7.3 Ford F250 or 350. Looking forward to pics and how you overland-up your truck. Cheers! -Grev
GHB in the vehicle. Along with a bin with camp food, gear, and water. Tool bag, gas syphon with collapsed jug, spare boots, ammo stash, large-ish trauma bag. And an active-shooter "Laptop Bag" behind the seat. Seems less and less silly to have that last one as the weeks go by.
...I have some...
