If you follow Patriot Campers USA's Facebook page, a bunch of people have added memory foam mattress toppers. There are several different recommendations, but they all seem to be about the same I think. Everyone agrees they sleep much better.
I don't remember. I was a fairly inexpensive memory foam topper. I think I got it at Costco. It makes a big difference. We sleep much better. Someday I plan to have a custom memory foam mattress made for it.
Yeah, that's how we do it. I got it down now, but it's still the hardest part of the takedown. We added a mattress topper which makes the bed a bit taller, and that makes the cover harder to put on. But after three years of trial-and-error, I have a system that makes everything work.
I was in the same position as the OP. I was leaning towards the Turtleback due to them being USA made and easier to source parts. They really seemed to be equal in build quality and the Patriot was a bit more $, which I assumed was due to the import fees. But then we got a chance to see them...
Yes, you can climb inside an X3 but it really doesn’t offer that much more protection than the X1. And the storage options are much more limited. And a smaller bed. When I was deciding, I thought the X3 was a no-brainer. But the more I researched it, the more I realized the X1 was better for...
I have a Patriot Camper trailer. It has a big, 270 degree awning made by Supapeg. The awning is very nice, but in order to get the wind walls, I'd have to pay nearly $800 to get them shipped from Australia. All I really need is a way to enclose the kitchen area during inclement (especially...
Flatpit makes a folding fire pit which also has a gas insert. So if you can't have wood fires, you can still have an evening fire, as long as you have a large propane tank. When wood fires are allowed, you can remove the gas insert and use the fire pit for a wood fire or even use it with...
Turtleback trailers are USA built and direct competitor to Patriot. They are a reliable company and make awesome trailers. yet, there are lot of USA companies which I would be very nervous about buying from (Moby1 didn’t do anyone any favors). But a comparable Turtleback is nearly equal in...
This probably is a better method, but from what I've seen, it's much harder to do right. Last time we went backpacking I watched a couple guys spend two hours trying to use this method. They didn't have hard sided containers. In the end their food was in a small stuff sack hanging about 7...
Negative bear encounters usually occur in areas where bears have become very accustomed to humans; National Parks, heavily-used designated campgrounds, etc. The other negative encounters often are with hikers who startle bears on hiking trails. Bears are curious animals. So keeping clean camp...
I have seen and had encounters with many, many black bears. Recently, We were In Sequoia and had one with cubs cruise right past our tent. They were feeding on berries and paid no attention to our camp. I credit this to the significant efforts of the park managers to educate people and...
In areas of heavy use (designated campsites or national parks) bears have learned to look for food in certain locations. The number of uneducated people who still leave food in their tent is high. So bears still check even if they can't smell the food. Like that guy that always looks at the...
