I had my aux replaced under warranty about a year ago, they wouldn't do the main at the same time. I am about to upgrade the main to an H7 and probably bypass the aux (pull fuse 42 and isolate negative from main battery) so I don't have another issue with it in the future. From other jeep forums...
Rode up through dry fork crossing on my way home from my Smoky mountain trip. River was really low so crossing was no issue at all. I camped at the large spot right at the crossing this time, had great time!
FSR Odyssey 49" tent, i have been really impressed with this tent. Even as thin as it is, I still manage to keep a double wide sleeping bag and camp pillows up in it.
Made a few changes since last year, got my whole camp setup/take down to about 5 minutes. Did a few weekend trips this year and cant wait to get out to the Smokys for 2 weeks mid June.
Spent a night right on meadow knob when I did the Allegheny-Shenandoah overland route last fall, there are plenty of dispersed sites along Flagpole Forest Road/Union Springs Rd. We were there in the middle of the week and hardly saw anyone riding the trails or camping. I heard during summer and...
You should be fine for that whole route, but like Roofus said if the water is really high at the crossing may have to go around. I am on 2.5" lift with 35s and never scraped anything, some parts of Union Springs road you may scrape here and there but nothing major.
Had an awesome time on this route this past fall. That dry fork water crossing was over 3'6" when we got to it, so decided to bypass. I would love to get back down there this summer to cross and camp next to that river, there were some killer sites right at the crossing but we didn't stay there...
Update on my butane/propane use. I did a week long trip around WV and temps dropped around freezing temps at night, had some trouble with the butane canisters, as they get colder during use and the flame would start to sputter out while boiling water, i would have to switch cans, or keep one in...
I try to be very good about double checking where I ride as well, having just gone through there, I was using GAIA and it appeared to be a through road as you show there. Also as you stated, there were absolutely no "no trespassing" or private property signs where the gravel turns to unmaintained.
I assume its referring to what is in that first picture I posted there, it is washed out but passable with most 4x4 rigs I would think. We had a wrangler and 2 gladiators get through just fine.
Just camped there last week, it was our first time in the area. We got there on a Monday and the place was pretty empty, i hear it fills up on the weekends. The upper half of the loop is unmaintained but nothing to difficult, was just pretty wet when we were there. I would also recommend the 4x4...
I am planning to do most of if not all of this route near the end of October with some friends. I'm still adding things to my plan, but cant wait to get out there for a week.
I have a GasOne 15,000 btu butane/propane single burner and have been really impressed with it so far. This thing will boil a liter of water in a pot in about 1 minute. So far I have only used butane in it, but will try out the propane and adapter next outing. So far the only issue is making...
By the Gap! When I first moved here a few people asked if I worked at the "the Gap". I didn't know much about this area and kept thinking thats an oddly specific retail store to ask about
