Afternoon to all. I am around Massanutten area and have not been to a meet. Challenge is weekends are not good for me, as I have obligations on the weekends. So someday if there is a week day meet, I can make it. Glad to read VA is active!!

Spending a few days in the Great Smoky National Park. Doing some radio activations and huking while here, along rt 441. And just plain enjoying the time, Great outdoors though not enjoying all the tourist around here.....

Yep the new fee is there right now, still cheaper than before, and probably worth it for a 10 yr license. Even Hams who get a new license or renew have the $35 fee now!!! Fun being had by all!

Wow, lots of advice one way or the other. Yes several radios are out there, can be used for many freqs, depending upon where you want to talk, distance, what freq, HF, VHF/UHF etc. Even a Marine band radio can be used to program different freqs that can be used out there. Also, the Multi-Use...

great suggestions, and don't forget about 146.52 national simplex freq also, many monitor this freq daily. However, always, know before hand where to be. So the standard freqs mentioned at the beginning of these posts are excellent, thank you. Some Chinese and other radios are a decent price...

Yep, I agree thank you, determine what your group will be using and all use that gear and frequencies. If you are using guides, they will let you know what comm they are using. Though if you and your friends are without a guide, it will be up to y'all to determine what comm will be used, and...

Yes, I agree thank you, determine what your group will be using and all use that gear and frequencies. Actually the $35 is a new fee for Ham Radio, up until now, we have not had to pay a fee for new or renewals, at least in my opinion. I do believe they wanted to charge the $70 initially...
