Just wondering who out there is using and induction cooktop? I see Amazon has a deal on the Jackery 1000 right now and it looks like this thing might be able to power a single burner induction stovetop I have.
Anyone have experience with such a setup?
I rarely ever check the support request thread here on the forums, but would love to help out others who may be nearby and need some help. My question is whether or not the app displays those support notifications. If not, could it be made to do so? Ideally I'd like to be able to select part of...
Trying to research winches a bit. This is for my 1996 AM General Hummer. I have the stock, non-winch bumper and would like a solution that contains the winch entirely behind the front bumper and doesn't reduce my approach angle.
Any thoughts, feelings, or cautionary tales to share?
Thanks...
Just wondering how many GM 6.5TD rigs are overlanding out there. I spelled it out longhand in this thread's title because the forum's search function tells me that the terms "GM" and "6.5" are too short and therefore weren't searched for.
My rig is a 1996 AM General Hummer with the GM 6.5TD...
My friend is selling her Ford Excursion Limited.
Triton V10 engine
Warn winch
Leather interior
Pioneer head unit featuring Sirius XM
283,486 miles (only 70,000 of that is on a new engine)
New brakes
$1,500 tires installed less than 20,000 miles ago
Let me know if you have any questions.
My 1996 Hummer (GM 6.5 TD) came with this brass fitting in its fuel line for attaching a fuel pressure tester. Does anyone know where I can find another one of these?
Thanks,

Looking for something that could perhaps sit in a charger for my wife's Subaru and be a quick, cordless way of vacuuming out the car. Would be nice if it could tuck away and charge on 12v car power.
Anyone have something you'd recommend?
Thanks!
Looks like electric chainsaws are getting really nice these days. Does anyone carry one with you in your rig? I've never carried one just because I didn't want the hassle of also carrying and potentially spilling gasoline and other fluids on/in my rig. An electric chainsaw seems like I could...
Washington State is considering offering a Smokey the Bear license plate.
"Proceeds from the special license plate sales will go to wildfire prevention and a program to support wildland firefighters."
They need at least 3,500 people to express interest in purchasing a plate. You can do so on...
While on Thanksgiving travels my wife and I stopped at St. John's Bakery on hwy 97. This particular middle of nowhere is located between Goldendale and Yakima, Washington. It's run by the nuns of St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Monastery. If you like bread or cake or meat or cheese or...
I have a '96 Hummer with the GM 6.5TD. Just wondering how many other full sized overland rigs also use this powerplant.
Are there overland specific tools, parts, accessories that you carry with you to keep your beast running?
One recommendation I have is to relocate your injection pump driver...
Just opened my CVT for the season and noticed a substantial amount of black mold spots, both inside and outside the tent. What is the best way to get rid of this? In the past I've cleaned it using soapy water. Seems to kill the mold and prevents it from spreading, but it doesn't really look like...
For those of you who have Starlink already, have you gone with the smaller dish with the motorized base that you can setup anywhere on the ground, or did you go with the in-motion version that mounts atop your rig? I'd love to hear your experiences with either version.

Wired had an interesting article about how high-tech cars are killing the auto repair shop.
Got me thinking about how this applies to overlanding and how to do repairs yourself, or at a local shop, far from a brand approved mechanic or official dealership.
I like my '96 Hummer with the GM...
My mom broke her leg while vacationing in Switzerland. Anyone here know anything about using an air ambulance service to fly home so as to not deal with having to sit upright on a plane for 9 hours?
My parents are trying to figure out how best to get back home to Oregon while keeping her...
Do you have any kind of tracking system for your rig? A few different options come to mind. I'm located in Washington State and overland into western Canada occasionally.
1) APRS
Pros: Free to use for non-commercial use.
Cons: Requires radio to be on an functioning and within comms...
Just wondering if anyone has real world experience with this.
I'm thinking this would be handy in the field when you meet up with others and haven't already setup your handhelds to be on common settings.
Just wondering if anyone has real world experience using a jump starting device with enough juice to turn over a 6.5L GM diesel.
Let's just say....theoretically... that I were to leave a dome light on for 3 days.
