  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    Ford Ranger Gen 3 Rigs

So in short... Superlift Old Man Emu Supreme Suspensions Yukon/USA Standard Gear RideTrendZ Rough Country MOOG Timken I used MOOG tie rods and upper and lower ball joints on the frint end rebuild, and Timken bearings. Rough Country made my double U-joint front drive shaft. Rough Country also...

    Ford Ranger Gen 3 Rigs

Does mine count? It shares the front suspension and some engines. I used Superlift for the front (K357 comes with front diff drop and lift blocks for the rear SOA on Rangers) Old Man Emu rear springs (you shouldn't need these) and Supreme Suspensions spacers... Also got RideTrendZ re-indexed...

    Electric overlanding

Nevertheless, the fact that companies are actually entertaining the idea of electric overlanding vehicles should be somewhat reassuring to the haters of electric road cars. It means that an effort is being made to bring the sport/hobby/lifestyle into the next generation, and ensure that we have...

    Electric overlanding

@P8trit True, but as @DosTacos said, people said the same thing about automobiles themselves, back in the horsedrawn carriage days. Automobiles were slow, clunky, unreliable, and gasoline stations were few, far between, and unrefined. It took 150 years for the gas-powered car to get where it is...

    4Runner Tires

@Grasshopper1987 To sum things up easily for you, the common denominator in everybody's comments seems to be Toyo tires. Nitto is the off-road division of Toyo Tires, so if you're more inclined to those sorts of things, search both divisions and decide which tire you're interested in! They come...

    4Runner Tires

@Smileyshaun Sure, but that's kind of why he asked - he wants to know what everybody likes and dislikes, and why, based on their own experiences. He also said he's running mostly highways, dirt, and mud. That helps narrow down the kind of tires he's after. Vehicles a similar size and suspension...

Rig ideas needed for apartment dweller

@JoshDante For your information, that $40k budget is more than what I paid for all four of my vehicles. I mean, these other guys have me thinking, what's wrong with buying two cheaper vehicles? I know you live in an apartment, so storage space might be a problem, but I'm sure you have a friend...

    4Runner Tires

As a user of Nitto Trail Grappler M/T's, I would hardly recommend them for daily driving. They're about the king of every off-road terrain I have ever encountered - mud, sand, some rocks, never tried them on snow. Road traction is limited however, and slick roads make it worse. They are also a...

Rig ideas needed for apartment dweller

I agree with @K12, it depends on what you're trying to do. There's a reason that the 4Runners are so popular in the scene. They're very capable right out of the box, and they're a great deal smaller than the Sequoias and full-size trucks. I understand your height is a concern, but I would get...

    Tire suggestions

Frankly, I would also recommend the Open Country. My Trail Grapplers are extremely aggressive mud tires, and they do not deliver pleasing road performance (no lateral grip, very unstable at high speeds).

    Recommendations on traction board mounts

Could you possibly bolt or weld a fabricated bracket onto the bar, to extend to the end of the boards? Then you could use the existing holes on the boards.

    Tire suggestions

Also notice the tread pattern. No straight grooves.

    Recommendations on traction board mounts

I'm not sure that I understand the question. Drill holes in the rack to put bolts and wing nuts on the rack, to hold the traction boards on, I grasp that - but what "other end" are you referring to? The back end of the truck, where the traction boards sit on the rear roof bar?

Honda Ridgeline/ Pilot Stock VS Lifted Uwharrie Offroad (AWD Festival 2022)

The whole IFS/IRS high-clearance thing is what made the military HMMWV (Humvee) such a success. Its suspension travel is limited, but a good set of diff lockers will get a truck a lot farther than any amount of flex will. You can sky two wheels and keep moving with a good locker. I, however...

Honda Ridgeline/ Pilot Stock VS Lifted Uwharrie Offroad (AWD Festival 2022)

@b0wfin RIP, I heard them snap. Who thought traction boards were a wear component?

Honda Ridgeline/ Pilot Stock VS Lifted Uwharrie Offroad (AWD Festival 2022)

Ha! True, that is what I meant - you used them to save everybody else. That XTerra was being held back by the tires, that boyo needs to put some real treads on that thing. Your Pilot ate all the other trucks for breakfast!

Honda Ridgeline/ Pilot Stock VS Lifted Uwharrie Offroad (AWD Festival 2022)

@b0wfin You used the bean dip outta those traction boards in the rain video. I haven't used traction boards, but I plan to buy a pair of 'em... as soon as I get more stuck than I can dig out of with a shovel. (I've been stuck 3 times now, but had other means of getting out).

Honda Ridgeline/ Pilot Stock VS Lifted Uwharrie Offroad (AWD Festival 2022)

All equipment being equal, a good driver can get any car far past where a poor driver would get stuck. Sadly, many people are overconfident in their vehicle's capabilities, and fail to develop good judgment and driving practices. I enjoy watching good drivers in moderate vehicles outperforming...

Honda Ridgeline/ Pilot Stock VS Lifted Uwharrie Offroad (AWD Festival 2022)

Watched the whole rain video, looks like a hoot! I've dealt with swamp mud many a time, but no mud is slick and slimy like that mountain clay. Fortunately for me, the two days I was there were dry! It's true, you can walk a truck right up a 45-degree incline, but get out and try to walk it, and...
